NO-SHAMPOO MAMAS - MAY! Month 4! - Page 3

I don't know how long it's been for me, since January I think? Maybe February? I haven't used any regular shampoo at all, but just bs/acv wasn't doing it for me after a while. Bs too often and my scalp was too dry, but my hair would get greasy really fast. I stuck with it for a long time, but then someone posted a recipe for shampoo spray using Dr. Bronner's and water and some eo's. I made that and love it. I use the shampoo spray every couple of days and use bs about once a week, plus I use acv every time I wash. My hair is so much different than it was a few months ago, shinier and less of a hassle. I run a comb through it after I shower and that's it, no fussing, and it doesn't look like a frizzy mess all the time.

brooklyngirl -- there's a recipe sticky at the top of the forum summarizing the process.Almost every single one of us does it slightly differently, so just start experimenting

What I do: @1-2 tbs b/s + 2-3 tsp honey and enough water to make a paste applied to my dry hair. I rinse with water, then with diluted acv, then again with water. I also have a Lush shampoo bar that I use sometimes (either with the b/s mix or not, depending on how greasy my hair is). I wash my hair about every 2-3 days. Every other day right now, b/c with the hotter weather I am way greasier!

BTW, I use that b/s mixture on my pits and my face as well

HTH!

It may well have been the vinegar, but it was ok. I mean, it didn't look like I had dumped a plate of scrambled eggs on my head, lol. It dried, and then brushed out. I love vinegar. I infused my vinegar with lavender (not the EO) and it smells yummy. And when my hair dries, the vinegar smell goes away, and the lavender smell stays.

I have gone almost 2 weeks no poo. I've done a couple bs washes and a few acv rinses. I must say that I really do feel disgusting. I am also breaking out on my hairline a little bit. Will it get better? I have blonde, thin shoulder length hair. I look a little greasy.

I tried egg, BS, and honey tonight. I rinsed with vinegar. But I really think that the BS is what kills my hair. It was just so gross tonight even after I rinsed. It feels ok right now, semi wet, but I think it's going to be "heavy" again when it dries. I'll go back to the egg, ACV, honey mixture is used last time. That was great.

Maggiemae, if the BS feels disgusting, try something else. If you have thin oily hair like me, then maybe it's just not for you. Or maybe it's the hard water. I don't know what it is with me, but my hair hates the BS.

Hmm. Now, one of the things we talked about back in Feb. was that our hair felt heavier in general. So that may be something similar. If you have fine hair, it makes it more difficult. I had to give up using boar bristle brushes because it made my hair so heavy and flat! I only use it right before shampoo to distribute all the natural oils. But then I also got used to slightly heavier hair and don't think about it any more.

Check out the recipe sticky and see what you think. Some people have had a "detox" period of disgusting and some haven't. I know veganmamma used to use her BS and ACV every day, like shampoo! Worked for her. I can't do that as it dries me out too bad.

My main attraction to it is that I get *fewer* head breakouts than I did because the shampoo was breaking me out. But now that it's hotter, I'm going to have to come up with something because I'm getting a few breakouts at the back of the head above the hairline again, I guess from heat and sweat.

Okay- I am really spending a lot of time obsessing about my hair! This morning I mixed some honey, egg white, and 2 drops of Dr. Bronner's Baby mild and washed with that . Then I rinsed with dilted ACV and one drop of patchouli oil. My DH says my hair looks and smells great....of course patchouli always puts him in the mood

Now I am worried that the castille soap might have the same effect as shampoo, stripping away the oil so that I produce more? My hair does not feel like it does when I shampoo it, but it does feel better than with just using bs an ACV. See I told you I was obsessing!

For the record, I've been doing this about a week & am almost worried because I have had no problems at all. Is that weird?

I am only doing BS and ACV & my hair isn't greasy or heavy at all. In fact, it looks pretty good. I've done every 3 days so far.

1) Is there any reason to alter my routine?

2) Can I expect results to change after I've been doing this longer?

3) Can you pre-mix teh BS and water, i.e., keep a bunch of it in a squeeze bottle & shake it beofre applying? Or do you have to mix it fresh every time?

4) Ditto with the ACV/water rinse.

Thanks.

Sounds good to me!

I wouldn't see any reason to alter till something happens. It may or may not. Some people go for a while and I guess something environmentally changes and then you have to tweak your routine.

I wouldn't see why you couldn't pre-mix. I'd probably more mix the ACV and water and spray it on than I would the BS as I tend to use more or less BS depending on how greasy I am at the moment.

I have a 32 oz. bottle that I mix the bs/hot water in and it lasts me a couple weeks. I use 3-4 T. bs and top off with hot water.
with the acv-I use about 1 cup per 32 oz. of water in a spray bottle. I like a little more acv because my hair is very long and fine and I like the extra conditioning the acv gives me.
No-it's not weird you have had no adjustment period. I didn't. I just switched over without missing a beat and have been happy trails ever since!
I think some people mistake no poo with no washing at all and that may be the root of their difficulties. You still have to wash!
3 washes so far with no poo and this is what I've noticed:
1) my hair is shinier
2) it is much easier to brush/comb my hair right out of the shower
3) the natural red highlights in my hair look a bit more intense (could this be the acv?)
4) my scalp is less dry

I've been using about 1 tbsp bs with a glop of honey mixed with about 4 oz water (not a paste) then rinsing well with water and following with about 1 oz acv in 8 oz water in a squeeze bottle and rinsing again with water. Today I added a little Dr. Bronners to the bs and honey, but I didn't notice any difference.

But, what should I do after swimming? Anything different to remove chlorine or will this routine be just fine?

I'm so glad I discovered you guys! Years and years of dry hair and experiementing with different expensive shampoos or only shampooing 1-2x per week and I was getting nowhere!

I was just going to post about my heavy feeling hair. I love everything about this, but the heaviness really bugs me. I have been doing it for a few months now. Did this formula help with that? Also, I have not tried egg yet. Does that give a cleaner lighter feeling than just the bs/acv rinse?

It did for me. Egg+ACV+honey= great hair

Egg+BS+honey=heavy hair

I pooed last night, because I ran out of ACV, and I can't do this without it.
Okay no-poo'ers, I need input.

What can I do to help my hair be shinier? It suddenly has gotten incredibly dull (and the color is fading which I didn't think would bug me but it is). I also need ideas for how to make nice smells last longer since it has also started to smell stale and dh said today (only because I asked, smart man) that it does smell sort of vinegary. That I think I can help by trying the lemon juice instead but what about the shine? Any tips?

Also, any thoughts on hair color? It seems like coloring my hair artificially is worse than poo'ing chemical wise and I wonder if the color would even last if my natural color is drabbing out. What do you all think?
Penelope That's odd. I've noticed my own hair is more shiny, actually. (I stopped dying it at the same time I did this -- well, OK, first I dyed the ends closer to my natural color).

Try the lemon juice -- it couldn't hurt!

And you could try using henna, too -- that gives a lot of shine and is natural. If you don't want red hennaed hair, try to find a brown one, or a neutral one (for blonde hair). My fave brand is Light Mountain (or somesuch). You can find it in a HFS. Henna that you get in Middle Eastern shops is generally good quality, but it's gonna be orange/ red! There's another HFS brand I've never tried, but it also has a bunch of different colors... I'd say a trip to the HFS and talking with the clerk there is in order!

HTH!

After 4 months of no poo, I'm done. I went and got my long hair cut off and got some hair products to manage my thick curly hair. My looked good for awhile, then started getting very dull and dry.

no poo week 1

Ok My hair looks really good and my hair and skin has felt MUCH better. I was having this crazy itchy skin that I think was being caused by shampoo residue activated by sweat. makes sense?

Anyway I have a question. On crazy mornings when beating an egg isn't in the picture what do people do? Skip it, not wash just wet hair with water?
me too, brooklyn girl...I am on 2 weeks I think and actually my hair feels less itchy! Think because we have hard water and now the residue is finally washing out!!!
Water is an amazing cleaner, I must say-I am surprised!!!!

Egg plus ACV plus Honey sounds like the recipe for me, except uh, what is ACV???

Thanks mamas!
