NO-SHAMPOO MAMAS - MAY! Month 4! - Page 4

I tried the egg wash on monday : Not good at all for me! (I did the egg, vinegar, honey mix and added a bit of baking soda -- which foams up nice with the vinegar -- but wow was my hair GREASY after that! I left it for for 2 days to see if things would get better -- nope. Just more and more greasy -- yuck!)

I will stick with bs/honey from now on!

ACV = apple cider vinegar. You can use any kind of vinegar really, (or lemon juice).

Ok SO I joined you last week. I have to say though when I started reading the thred and came across someone saying the washed with poo today, well I thought they used...well...that kind of poo you know :

SO in any case last week I washed with BS and lemon juice. Just rinsed with water a couple times during the week and my hair made it until yesterday looking good. Did the routine again last night and it looks great!!

I've been no 'poo for 1 week now

I decided, what the h*ll! I'd give it a try.

The first day my hair was really dry.
The second day it felt like I'd used conditioner and was very smooth and silky.

I've washed by hair with bs/acv every day since then because it gets kinda greasy by bedtime. But I like the way it is easy to brush - no tangles - and it means that I'm totally soap-free now.

I'll stick with it a bit longer and check in.

article on bad poo

Here's a link to the article about poo affecting memory.

Washing your hair might make you lose your mind. Sounds like a line from the cover of a tabloid magazine , but it's the focus of government research.

Researchers have uncovered evidence that suggests an ingredient found in some soaps and shampoos might affect memory.

Zeisel has uncovered evidence in mice that suggests DEA, and a similar ingredient -- TEA -- seep through the skin and block the brain's ability to absorb choline, a key nutrient that plays a crucial role in the memory cell making process in the developing brain.

"And our hypothesis is that they will, and we'll be able to show that doses of this compound administered frequently will cause abnormal brain development in the baby and they'll perform as if their mothers were eating too little choline in the diet," said Zeisel.

The UNC research is using the same amounts of DEA as most of us would get if we shampooed our hair a couple of times a week.

DEA stands for diethanolamine, a chemical that is used in shampoos, lotions, creams and other cosmetics. DEA is used widely because it provides a rich lather in shampoos and keeps a favorable consistency in lotions and creams.

TEA, the other ingredient being tested, is similar and stands for triethanolamine.

I'm in a bit of a crisis here, and you'll have to fogive me for not catching up on recent posts,I'm super short on time...Which brings me to my crisis.I had a good understanding of how my hair was and what it needed ,when...etc.Then life got crazy and I was lucky to shower, nevermind have any clue where my hair was.Now it is greasy, collecting dust and lint a ton,and just yucky. Can I start over? How?Do I need to add honey or something?I've just been doing bs with acv and lavendar.Putting about a tablepoon or 2 dry bs on,working it into wet hair, letting sit, rinsing w/watered down acv,and rinsing that too.Any advice?Thankyou for being here!

try dissolving the bs in HOT water 1st. Putting it on directly may be too harsh for your hair type.
I rinse mine too-before I put the diluted acv in. then rinse well again.
I haven't tried the honey but others have had great results with it.
Maybe dilute your acv a little more if you are having greasies. I seem to remember a link between too strong acv and greasies.
Also around moon time (af) some folks have a little more difficulties. maybe this is a factor for you too?
HTH!

I always mix my bs with enough water to make a paste before I put it on my hair...

Honey will increase your greasies, not decrease it. I like it b/c it smells good and it moisturizing to my scalp, but if I am greasy I don't use it.

I find once I ovulate (yay!) I get horribly greasy until the end of my cycle. Since I'm hoping to have a 9 month cycle one of these days, I imagine I'll be remaining greasy while I'm pregnant. Well, small price to pay, I say!

I'm going to try your diluting the acv trick, myrhhmaid

Tried the lemon juice instead of the vinegar and the no poo honeymoon came to a screeching halt. Limp and oily today.

I thought I posted this but I don't see it. sorry if repeat

Anyone using styling products?

I'll be back to the vinegar my next wash.

Has anyone tried beer?

Hey--you aren't alone. I had posted elsewhere that when I first read "no poo" I thought it was a thread about constipation!

I have not been & am amazed that my hair is just fine without them. I have really dry hair, so maybe this no poo no styling products is just what I needed!

tried the shampoo spray...

did not like it a bit. Maybe I did something wrong. I have somewhat oily hair and it is yucky, dull, and flaky today. I did not have any rosemary eo so I used rosemary tea instead of the water. Maybe that would make a difference? Acutally, I am not too surprised as my hair really feels like it was washed in castille soap. I have not found any use yet that I really like castille soap for. Maybe I need to try the egg now.

I pooed last night, because I ran out of ACV, and I can't do this without it.

Do you mix the honey with the egg? I am confused about what order to do these in and how to do the honey.

Thanks.
I am really struggling this week so need to figure something out. :
