Pushy and Pully: Twins hurt each other!!

OK, mamas, I need some comfort and advice. Advice first, please. My almost 2 year old daughters are angelic, even tempered, loving people. This week two things happened that are really disturbing and I don't know what to do. Monday, Monica pulled Meredith's hair... more than once... pushing her with her feet to get her away. Today, Meredith pushed Monica down the staircase (she's ok, thank heaven, but she did roll down the carpeted steps and was scared). Both of these events happened when the girls were trying to get away from each other. DH and I work and we have a nanny with them all day. I know they really need 1:1 time and that DH and I have to pick up this task since the nanny is only one person and she's not their mommy & daddy. DH was a SAHD until 3 weeks ago.

Is this their age? Or the change to having a nanny? Or what? And what do I do? Calmly describing the danger and disapproval of the behavior may help but it sure hasn't stopped things from snowballing.

Sounds like they may be reacting to the change in care givers. But ALSO, I have a 2 year old and I know he pushes and kicks and uses his hands inappropriately...that is very AGE specific. I suspect you have two things working on them and consistent discipline (not punishment but discipline) of their behavior will help you through the transition!

GOod luck!

My twin girls are 18 almost 19 months old and I have been seeing this a lot lately. One of them starts playing with something and the other one wants it. They've hit, bitten, and knocked each other over!

I do think that it would be very typical for you to see some behavior changes when changes to their daily rountines happen (change in caregivers). Some of it too, I think, is just typical behavior for their age.

They don't really know how to share yet, they can't verbalize their wants or frustrations very well. You just have to decide how you want to handle the situation. For now, I have pretty much been redirecting or removing them both from the situation.

Hang in there!
