My dd(22 months) discovered Elmo recently at a friend's house. We are pretty selective about what we let them watch, but I figured Sesame Street? Okay, not too bad. I found the Elmo in Grouchland movie on a clearance rack for 1.50, so I got it. While she doesn't yet get the motives behind the movie, I'm very upset. For those who haven't seen it, Elmo loses his beloved blanket (his best friend) and has to go to Grouchland to get it back from "mean old Huxley" who hasn't learned how to share. I guess there are really two major things that bother me. It is implied that Elmo is like Huxley because he doesn't want to share his blanket with Zoe. In fact, Elmo doesn't HAVE to share his blanket and he tells Zoe twice that he wants his blanket back in a very nice, respectful manner before he gets upset and demands it back. I feel that he handled this just right and have told my children that. But it is implied, very strongly, that we should share all things, even those that are very important to us. And Vanessa Williams is blatantly sexual in this children's film. Her costume, her mannerisms are all overtly sensual, etc. It bothers me.
Anyone else seen it? Feel this way? Dh says I'm being overly cautious, but I don't think so. Anyone? Thanks so much!
