How did you pay for your birth? - Page 2

We've had 2 at home now. For both, we used a combination of savings and credit card advances (with low intest rates).

Our midwife charge $2500. It's hard to justify to paying so much out of pocket, when our insurance would pay everything (except a $15 copay) for a hospital birth. But it's worth it. I can't imagine ever having a baby in a hospital again.

Wow, I feel a bit better seeing that some midwives have let families make payments after the birth. We see our midwives tomorrow and I'm going to explain my situation to them and see what they say. If nothing else, lol I'll have to organize a bake sale or something

I'm so mad at this photographer I'm working with- we were supposed to be doing a shoot at his location (which meant travel for me but I don't mind) during my pregnancy for $2000, but since he's having trouble finding a second model to shoot me with (why he's so stuck on this I don't know...) he's set it up for me to shoot with a photographer here in my town for $400 (it was going to be $350 but apparently he was feeling generous). I still have a couple other shoots during this pregnancy, but nothing paying enough to cover my midwives' fees. On the good side the photographer I mentioned wants to do a couple shoots after the baby is born and (says) he'll pay $2500 per shoot then. Sigh.

all 4 of my births i made payments to the midwife at each appt. my surro babe i saw the midwife up to 36 weeks wthout making a payment, and when the babys mum got here for the birth, she paid the entire fee. i still owe my midwife 200 from my last baby and he is a year old tomorrow. she has taken things in trade as well...like birthing kits which i can get for free...and it saves her money as well! i think most midwives will work with you on a payment schedule.

Update :)

Just wanted to update everyone on my payment dilemma... I was worrying for nothing. I explained the situation to the ladies and they are more than happy to work out payment arrangements, paying after the baby is born is no big deal- and I am to stop stressing over it I really do love my midwives! I feel so much better, I have been stressing over this for the past 2 months, and I feel like I can breathe. I guess I'm so used to dealing with people (companies) who want their money *right* NOW or else that it didn't really occur to me that there would be flexibility. It's so refreshing to have this relationship of open communication and trust and flexibility- they understand and sympathize with the bumps in life...

breathing.

Gotta the midwifery model of care. So glad to hear there's one less stress in your life!

Well, I'm having the government pay for mine! $2000 for a DEM. Sometimes it's great to be a parasite on the system. Of course, it would cost them a lot more to pay for a hospital birth.

I guess I had no idea how lucky we are. Our direct entry midwives are covered under our insurance. We had some billing issues last time, but, in the end, the insurance paid. Hopefully, it will be even easier this time.
