i saw this reviewed in a magazine we subscribe to... The Three-Martini Playdate: A Practical Guide to Happy Parenting by Christie Mellor.

excerpt: "Three years old is not too soon to start learning the fundamentals of decent vacuuming."

chapters include:
Saying No to your Child: It's a Kick!
Screaming: Is it Necessary?

and
Child Labor: Not Just for the Third World

it also recommends parents teach their children how to offer their parents guests cocktails.

just wanted to put out the heads-up.

if anyone here has read it... is it really as bad as it seems??

It sounds like Patsy and Edina from Abfab wrote it. I am going to have to assume this book was meant to be a satire and not a serious piece of parenting advice?

unfortunately this is no satire.

I am not able to process that someone would write a book like that in a serious vein.

I read the exerpts at Amazon. while she is making some valid points she is definitely making them in a light hearted humorous way. Some of it is a little sarcastic./ It looks like she is addressing some of the more annoying trends in parenting and the book itself is actually streight forward but her writing is amusing. I would likeen it to Vicky Iovines stuff (girlfriends guides). Funny but the underlying point is well made without loosing the humor. It isn't a boko I think many people here would like though. SHe sorta dogs on obsessing over a lot of the things people here obsess over.

I love when books satire my obsessions. It reminds me that there is humor in everything, nearly anway.
