Calling all vets of the fat wars - Page 2

I like books that change my point of view and make me think in a different way. Author and OB Dr. Christiane Northrup said that stress is part of what causes us to be overweight. Stress causes chemical reactions that cause us to hold onto body fat. She explained the science of it. So anything that reduces stress like meditation/prayer/exercise/breathing exercises/other exercise like yoga or like your awesome bike rides! can help. Going on a diet from bad news can help (I am a talk show and news junkie and I KNOW it is bad for my stress! AGH!)

Another unique point of view: author Louise Hay says that we hold onto fat to protect ourselves emotionally. I think there's a lot of truth to this.

Just beginning to explore these things myself.

I cut out sugar (unless organic cane juice), wheat, and cow dairy and the weight just shead off. I became aware of snacking too.

I say cane sugar because I still cooked with it but it made me more aware of how much sugar I'd inadvertantly eat. I think being aware made me unconiously cut back. Same with snacking.

And I'm a chocoholic - still am so I didn't sacrifice there.

In 1.5 years I lost 45 lbs and have kept it off for over a year. Now I loose about 1 to 1/2 lb a week which is perfect. 10 more to go but no rush.

I love food and could NEVER diet.

Good luck, just be patient with yourself. Remember it took more than a month to get on you, so more than a month to come off.
