What were your impressions of the Teenage Liberation Handbook?

This book made me very sad. I saw how I had wasted my life and was taught to automatically view anything learning-related as something negative and boring. Reading this book showed me how learning should really be. At least it's not too late.

It made me sad, too, and also angry. I wanted to be able to go back in time to high school so that I could drop out and LIVE! I would've had to have been in a different family, though, 'cause even if my parents had supported that decision (ha!) they would have forced me to work full-time, so I wouldn't have been doing much living. I am so excited that my own kids will get to choose their own destinies. I'm going to have them read the book when they get a little older.

I haven't read it *yet* But it's on my list. And after reading your reviews, maybe I should bump it up to the top of my list.

I too always thought learning/school was something to get through- something that was "done" when school/class was done. I don't want my children to fall victim to the same type of thinking.

I was thinking about getting thsi book for my 15 yr old niece. She is in public school, and will have to stay there- my sister is not open to the idea of her being homeschooled. Do you think it would be appropriate for a kid who still has to go through the school system?

i read this book when i was in high school. my mom would not let me drp out under any condition, but it was really inspiring to me and helped me realize that i was a real person living a real life and that i was responsible to make the best of it, and noone had the right to treat me the way my teachers/principal did. it really did liberate me! i wish all kids read it.

I would still have liked it when I was in school. It's written for teens, and it would have been nice to have an adult tell me that if I chose to quit school I wouldn't be destined to work in fast food forever.
