nursing pictures at any national chains?

I got the kids pics done at Picture People the other day, and decided to ask if they would do a nursing picture- they said they couldn't- I was actually suprised- evidently, I could come in in a tiny bikini (not that that would make a good picture :LOL) but can't have a picture done with a baby on my breast- which would cover more, YK? I can't afford a private photographer- does anyone know of any chains that would do it?

Did some employee just tell you they couldn't? Often, employees of stores or restaurants will tell bfing mothers that "their policy" prohibits bfing on the premises, but it later turns out that no such policy exists and that the employee was just uncomfortable.

I would ask to speak to management and aggressively pursue until you get a satisfactory answer. You are paying for the pics; you should be able to do whatever you want as long as no laws are broken.

Interesting. Now I want to call my local PP and ask if they'll take a nursing picture.

Law protects you to breastfeed your child so why would they not be able to take a picture of that? They would be able to if you were bottle feeding. I would talk to the management and threaten to call your local government representative. Inform them of laws that protect you to do that maybe that will work and you will get your picture. Good luck.

bak- (breakfast at keyboard :LOL)

the girl/woman i spoke with was the manager- she wasn't grossed out at all, she just said it was against policy, and she said one of the women who works there loves takings pics of pregnant women's bellies- and she thought that woman would come to my house to take pics (but I can't afford that).

i want the picture to show that he is nursing, not just being held, yk? i don't want to show my nipple or anything- just do want a close shot of his head, and my upper body, I figure some of my skin will be showing, but definitely not more than if I was wearing a bikini.

as far as being a paying customer- i basically go there for the free shots all the time (they send coupons for free sitting/ free 8x10)- so i am not really paying.

i could make a stink i suppose- but i thought maybe i would just go to a different place that would happily do them- you know- where the photographer actually thinks BF is beautiful. i used to go to sears in my hometown and the manager there was super AP/BF friendly- always complimenting me on my parenting and BFing and all that- i think i'll call her and see if sears will let her take a shot like that-- of course-- they don't have the free sitting, free picture deal- and i have no cash , maybe my mom would pay for it .

Ask to see the policy. I'll bet it doesn't exist.

They have a POLICY? Against taking bfing pictures???

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!

I just called one of the PP stores near me (there are two within 1/2 hour). The woman who answered the phone said that there is a photographer there who nurses her baby and wants the same thing and would probably be willing to do it. She did add that if "corporate" were to see them or "walk in" that it would be a big "no-no". BUT...she did say that they weren't saying no...that it depended on the photographer and how "comfortable they were". She basically skirted the issue...never saying no and never saying yes. Makes me want to contact "corporate" to find out the real policy.

Edited to add: She did say that the photographer there would be willing to take the pictures on her own time if I wanted her to do that.

Edit yet again...LOL: I tried calling but their customer service department is closed. That number is 877-968-4746 and their e-mail is customerservice@picturepeople.com.

Thanks all! I, too, bet that there is no "official policy" against it- but still, I'd prefer to do it with a photographer who likes the idea- I think that would make for a nicer picture. I think I'll write the customer service and if I get an "okay", I'll ask for the photographer that the manager mentioned who likes to "shoot" pregnant moms :LOL, hopefully she'd like nursing moms too .

just wondering...

can you have a friend (or your partner/husband/whatever) snap a picture of your baby nursing? my dh took one of isadora nursing in a funny position just the other night. the vantage point was from above my head so the picture (hopefully - haven't gotten it developed yet!) should be of my whole boob sans nipple since it was in dd's mouth

i was inspired by the picture in this month's mothering mag.

I have taken a few by holding the camera over my head :LOL, and dh has taken a couple, I just wanted something nicer.

yeah, that's what i figured you meant
i'd love something nicer, too. more artsy, i guess.

that would be neat to create a gallery on MDC of mamas nursing. or has that already been done recently and i've missed it?

Jess7396~ I'm sure I have a free sitting coupon for Sears around here. I can send you one if you like. It comes with picture sheets for $3.99 or something ridiculously cheap like that. Pm me if you like.

I called JC Penney and Olan Mills. Both places told me on the phone I could have a nursing pic done w/ my daughter. I just never got around to doing it. Maybe I should make an appt!
