How would I make this bed protector?

Aislyn cosleeps with us, she doesnt wake up but once a night to nurse on most occassions, this means when we wake up in the morning half the time shes wet through. I do change her when she wakes to feed but her longest stretch is from 2 am until 9 or 10am. When its cold we lay out our electric blanket (unplugged) onto the sheets to lay on so it isnt so chilly. But now its getting warmer and we are going back to using our sheets, but I need something to protect them. The electric blanket is alot like a diaper cover where it doesnt really absorb like the sheets do.

I was going to just cut some of my fleece up, but Im afraid its too thick, incase she rolled over. PUL I dont think would be very comfortable, but maybe I could do PUL on the bottom with a knit on the top? But would that make it so the spit up just rolled off onto the sheet?

Any ideas?

My dilema was protecting the matress(sp)not the sheets so I put a piece of 200 wt fleece under the sheets where we lay and that keeps our matress set safe. Sheets wash easily, the matress will hold the urine smell for a long time.

Yeah I dont want it on my mattress ether, its just a pain to remake our bed, its a kingsize against the wall, and with the end table on the other side, you got to be a gymnist to get the sheet on and then to stay. I may just end up doing that though with the fleece under the sheets.

Ours is kingsize against the wall with a dresser on the other side. I just pull the top mattress down a little bit and out away from the wall to put the sheets on it, then slide it back when I'm done. Less acrobatics that way.

protecting the bed

I think I would use something similar to the quilted pads that rest homes use. They are about 30x30 and they are basically a few layers of flannelette type material quilted, attached to a water proof backing. If they can handle adults accidents, they should be fine for a baby. I would even be tempted to watch garage sales for them. They are expensive new, but they machine wash tumble dry and bleach doesnt faze them either.
