Need opinions on nursing tops

My first time around, I didn't get any nursing shirts, but I'd really like to get some....

I'm getting some from motherwear I think... and I want opinions

What style of nursing opening do you like best and why? And do you have a small/medium/large bust? I'm wondering if different size boobs work with different styles?

I wish I could try these on IRL!!!

hey there.
i like motherhood and motherwear crop openings. i don't like the verticle slits, i really prefer the crop. I am fairly large chested (42DD)
and you mght want to see if you have a store near you. Our mall has a motherhood maternity store so i've been able to go in and try on different styles and see what i like and what i don't.

I will look at motherhood though

I like the Motherwear essential nursing tops but my experience with them as a company has been horrible! I ordered a long sleeved and short sleeved essential nursing top in February and didn't get them until April. I have since ordered 2 more long sleeved shirts (ordered in March) and still have yet to get them, now it is too hot here to wear long sleeves. I have tried to order 2 more short sleeved tops and they are "back ordered" until the end of this month so who knows when they will show up. I tried to order a bathing suit and it was "back ordered" so for the fun of it, I tried to order a WIDE variety of their short sleeved nursing tops in my size (large) and all are "back ordered" which I find very interesting. I am not happy at all with their customer service and had to laugh when I got their latest catalog (2 days ago) and they had comments throughout the catalog from customers saying how satisfied they are with the customer service.

So in my opinion, if you can get your nursing tops somewhere else, do it because if you order from Motherwear you may not get what you want for 2 months.

I think they must be one of those companies where they advertise, and then when you place your order, they place their order with their supplier. I don't think they keep a running stock.

Good luck!

Two-three months for some shirts!! DUDE!

Okay, I went to the Motherhood outlet tonight and got some clearanced out shirts... I got 3 tank tops for 6.98 each and I'm thinking I can put them under almost any shirt and make it a nursing shirt, right? They just have slits up and down in the front.

And I got a cute orange and pink shirt for 9.98

So I feel better now! Now I'm off to bra shop!! I didn't own any nursing bras (I bought a few, but none worked very well) so I'm determined to make it work this time!

Also check out e-bay. There are some SAHMs who make nursing shirts. I have bought some really cute shirts (new) for a fraction of what Motherwear costs.

I like the side slits the best, less pulling to get it all in place!

I really love www.expressiva.com

I swear, they should have a referral program! :LOL Their stuff is really nice, high quality, the customer service is fantastic and prices are comparable to other companies! And they have some really "non" nursing type stuff, not your basic crop top stuff. I have three of their shirts, two dresses and am looking at the yoga tops for this summer. Very cool stuff!

Good Luck!

I hated Motherwear's nursing tops, and their customer service as well. I was unsure of the sizing so I called to ask, I ordered the size they recomended, it was huge on me. Finally, I got 3 tops in a correct size, they had vertical slits, they were more bother then what they were worth. I only wore them a couple times and I would still lift up the bottom of the shirt to bf!

I have to second this opinion! I *love* Expressiva's stuff! They sometimes sell on eBay too...directly from their store which is nice. I have an awesome nursing dress from them and a couple of shirts. Very stylish and SUPERBLY made!

I have a Motherwear nursing sweater set that I adore and wear even when not nursing. Its a "shell" underneath that you can wear in warmer weather and with the sweater part in cooler weather. It has side slits and is really discreet and I just love it. I also like Motherwears bra selection. Great value and style IMO. I will say that they run large in size with their clothes though (ie their small is more like someone elses medium)

I definately don't like with Motherwear. I think their stuff is really stuck in the nineties style-wise. I got some stuff because I lived near the outlet store but I think its easier to nurse in regular clothes. I tried on several extra small dresses, but they were all huge on me. I also ordered two bras through mail order before I had the baby and only one came, the other was on back order so I was stuck with one bra which was constantly breastmilk soaked for the first couple weeks.

I have been searching for a dress but have only found one I like and its super expensive even on sale and its a winter dress.

I have a love-hate with nursing shirts. I have tried Motherwear and Motherhood and much prefer the quality of Motherwear. Most of the shirts I've tried are made in USA with is a big plus for me.

I actually don't really like the nursing shirts too much. I'd like to try Expressiva sometime. I have a nursing dress that I have never worn (I forgot about it in the closet ) that has neat openings and I like it I think.

Sorry... I guess I wasn't much help!

I liked the clothes I got from Expressiva and from Blissfulbabes.com. Blissfulbabes actually has nursing shirts in black! I got one in a stretchy fabric. It was two layers and somehow, was both slightly clingy and very slimming.

Look for sales.

Concerning Motherwear, I had the opposite experience of some who have posted here. The customer service was wonderful! Be aware that their stuff runs VERY big. I usually wear a size S, and most MW size S stuff is too gib for me. (Some of their clothes come in size XS, but not many.)

All that said, I really don't care for nursing clothes, especially in the summer. (Too many layers--way too hot!) I enjoyed some of my too-big MW nursing shirts to wear to bed in the winter, though. Also, I got some pretty dresses from MW, and one from One Hot Mama. There are times when you get tired of wearing two-piece outfits.

My biggest pet peeve about nursing clothes (both my Motherwear and One Hot Mama clothes suffered from this flaw) was the huuuuge neck openings. Bra straps were always showing. And going without a bra wasn't an option unless I wanted to show everything I have (which isn't much, lol) when I bent over.

I like www.onehotmama.com and www.momsinmind.com

I'm a small mama so it's hard to find nursing clothes that fit. These two stores I can always find something.

The only ones I will wear is Majamas. I have a top from Babystyle (was $$$ but a Christmas gift) that is cute enough that my sister wanted to borrow it until she realized what it was for and is very easy to nurse in. It's somewhat v-necked and you pull down the outer layer and there is an inner layer with a big circle. The fabric is thin so the inner layer doesn't cause a lot of bulk (which was part of my problem with the Motherwear shirts.) I ususally just use stretchy t-shirts and pull them up, but when I am in situations where I don't want to be yanking my shirt up, the Majamas top is perfect.

ETA: I have medium to large boobs. (D-ish)

i also had the problem with motherwear neck openings. much better quality than most (esp motherhood, what crap), but unless you don't wear a bra or have linebacker shoulders... thank god i got them on ebay instead of the store, or i'd be out 60 bucks or more instead of 20 apiece.

www.
milkandhoney.com is nice, but a very warm knit, i keep mine for winter/fall.
