Kids Riding in the U-Haul

My family is going to move to PA next week DS would like to ride in the U-Haul with DH. It would be easier for me than listen to the petty arguments for 2 days. He is 40 inches and 40lbs at 4 years old. In the car he rides in the booster. I have a younger DD who also fits in the weight and age constraints for a booster seat but is still in a 5 point car seat. Would it be safer for me to put DS in the 5 point in the moving van and have DD in the booster in the car or is a booster in the U-Haul safe?? Any thoughts?? Thanks

Is the 5 point seat still rated for your son's size and weight? If not, I'd stick with the booster, but if so I might put him in the 5 point.

If he's used to the booster, I'd put him in the booster in the U-Haul. It should be fine, and on a long car trip I'd definitely want to keep the 2 yo in the 5 pt harness. I have yet to see the U-Haul truck with a passenger side air bag, and if it did have one, there would be a switch to deactivate it.

Wasn't thinking about airbags. I'll check to make sure. DD is 3, to clarify.

3? All the more reason to keep her in the 5 pt. harness. A bit harder to squirm out of.

Like I said, trucks w/ no back seat that have passenger side airbags have to have a switch to deactivate them. And it's doubtful a U-haul is going to have a passenger side airbag anyway.

You might want to wait to see which seat fits better in the U-Haul. I can picture the belt possibly not working great with the booster.

The booster should be fine. When my ds' were 3 and 1, we moved and ds #1 rode in the ryder with dh. He was sooo tired but he was soo excited that he would not nap!(this was probably halfway into the 10 hour drive) we had to switch the boys so he could sleep! He was really mad, but as soon as he got in the car, he fell asleep. DS #2 then moved to the ryder. He had just turned one. He was in his five point harness. He had those play keys that make noises when you push a button. He was holding the keys and he ould nod his head forward as he was falling asleep, but the nod would be enough pressure to make the keys beep(he had the bar I guess with a three point harness, not the 5 pter and the keys were resting on the bar) which would wake him up!! This went on for about 10 minutes. DH couldnt reach over to him in the cab, bc there was a little too much space between them, and a little cooler, plus he didnt want to take his hands off the wheel!! The poor kid finally moved it and was able to go to sleep LOL!!!
