DH accidentally unplugged the deep freezer a few days ago. he thought it was a lamp we aren't using. we discovered it today and he is soo upset, poor guy. me too thank god dd is almost a year and still nursing great.

i'm a bit anxious since i have no stash now, so I'm buying a medela pis. my isis won't cut it, i need a bit of a stash for my mental wellbeing

how comfy would you be buying a minimally used pis on ebay?

Oh no, that's awful!

I remember when I had a freezer stash, I was always checking our freezer was on and that dh had closed the door properly.

I bought my pump new but if I had to buy another I wouldn't mind buying a used one. I buy used toys and dd puts them in her mouth. Don't see why a pump is anything different.

OMG!! i have 150 oz. of EBM right now in my freezer and I would literally die if it went bad! I'm so sorry it happened to you!

Oh wow!

I would feel comfortable getting a used pump from a friend, but not sure I would get one off eBay. I guess it just depends on your comfort zone.

YOu can get new pump parts.. The parts that the BM touches.. Just call them up and tell them you need a kit.. DO NOT however tell them you have bought it used.. They won't sell it to you then.. "For liability reasons".. Yeah.. They aren't liabel to make as much money if everyone buys a used pump!!

Warm Squishies..

poor woman, i know just how you feel. my freezer went out when ds was about 6 months old and i lost about 200 oz. after the supply and latch problems i had in the begining, i was SO proud to have all that extra. and to make it worse, because i was working, ds had to have a day of formula. anyhow, it was awful. i would buy a used PIS and buy a new kit (tubes and horns). you might even be able to get the kit new on ebay for a good price.

Oh no! I am sorry that happened. THat is horrible. If that were me I would be crying my eyes out. I personally would not be confortable buying a used one off ebay, only cause I really cannot tell the condition it would be in. But if you are comfortable with it, go for it and good luck building back up.

Oh I'm so sorry that happened to you! :-(

I have 300 oz. of frozen that I will probably have to dump. My baby's highly allergic to dairy and all the milk has dairy in it. I gave her some yesterday and she projectile vomited it immediately and was gassy and fussy all day. Sigh. I wish I could sterilize mine and give it to you.

About the used breastpump-- I would probably go new. You can also rent a good quality one for about $30/month. That might not be a bad way to go.

There should be no problem with buying one used if you get a new kit to go with it. Think about it - what are rentals and hospital grade pumps but pumps used by many people with their own kits.

oh no!

Darshani,

Ask around, there's bound to be someone who could use your milk stash! As long as you weren't sick when you pumped it, if I needed it I'd use it w/out sterilization.

Of course, I don't need extra, and even if I did I'd have no place to put it. I just have the dinky fridge/freezer in my apartment. I haven't pumped since DD was a month old.

well Dh bought me a medela traveler new on ebay for $180. i personally would feel fine with a used one as long as the motor wasn't too used, KWIM? oh well.

I had plans for that ebm this summer to help dd learn a sippy...time to start pumping again I guess!

You can also get pump parts at some pharmacies. If you have a home care company in your area (like the folks who rent out nebulizers and biliblankets), they should carry pump parts, too.

I'd use a used PIS-style pump, but I wouldn't share one. Like, I wouldn't pump if my SIL had just used it a couple hours before.

ETA: My 15mo loves water in a sippy cup. He won't use the type with a valve (he can't suck on something that isn't soft and nipply), so be prepared to try a few types of cups.
