Wool Soaker Patterns & dyeing question

Im looking to make my own wool soaker and was hoping you mamas might have a suggestion on where to go. Im hoping to find a free one that works pretty good, and I really want to make some shorts. Im on my first knitting item right now, that is from the LTK learn to knit kit. But I cant bring myself to pay 10 dollars for a pattern that is emailed to me. Especially since there are a few of her wool colors Id love to try and at 10 bucks a shot, I cant afford to go all out with all of them.

So do you have any suggestions on some cute wool soakers/shorts? Knitted ones btw, not the recycled ones.

I forgot I had a question about dyeing the wool. I want to get it so I have multicolors, how do you go about doing that exactly? Do I just dip one end in, then do another? Its kind of unclear to me.

There are free patterns online, but I really like the fit of the LTK soaker as well as the technical support you get when making it. I think $10 is a very good deal, and I like being able to download it right away instead of having to wait a week for the mail.

Ah thanks for the link, I always forget those are up there. So I think I found the pattern Im going to try, but my next question is do I want 2 or 3 ply wool yarn? the pattern doesnt say what she uses. And any ideas on the dyeing multi colored? Would I have to hand paint, and does that take ages to do?

There was a thread that had something about how to verigate thread, but I can't find it right now, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to dip/hand paint it. :LOL I would do 3 ply.
