Very Baby AIO pattern ?s

Ihave never bought a diaper pattern, and I must say that my sewing experience isn't the best. I was wanting a side snapping AIO, but I don't think I will ever find what I'm looking for instock at a WAHMs site :LOL So... I am thinking of making my own. I am looking at the diaper shop, and am wondering how accurate the yardage measurements are. The Very Baby AIO looks good and trim to me, even though it does have aplix closure. I only have a sewing machine, no serger. WIll I still be able to make it? What type of fabric should I use, I wasn't sure about using birdseye or flannel. I also want to top in micro. Oh, and how is the soaker attached? Is it sewn int he back? Is there any absorbent layers in the body? I don't want any wicking. If you know of any snapping AIO patterns, I would love links.

Thanks so much!

You can use whatever fabrics you want to use. And, I wouldn't think you would need a serger since it's a turned AIO, not serged. You can use a close, zig zag to sort of mock serge. And if you want, you can make the soaker attach at the back rather than be hidden. sorry... hard to think with a toddler trying to get the keyboard.

What type of AIO do you want to make? If you want a side snapping quick dry, you'd be better off with the diaper pattern and convert that to an AIO. I've done this - I took a layer of print knit, a layer of PUL and a layer of microfleece and sewed them together with some elastic according to the pattern instructions. The pattern comes with a template for a soaker also - although I made mine a pocket and used a joey in there.

Its a quick and easy pattern. I found its not a large fitting diaper though, the large is quite small, and the medium doesnt fit my 19 lb daughter - although that's partly due to my poor sewing and cutting skills I think, still it was true of the 3 I made.

Do use the snaps. This diaper is definitely better as a side closing rather than a front closing diaper. The wings are too wide to close at the front and they pull and curl annoyingly when done up on the baby, because they come across the thighs. Also, I really dont think this pattern is the best with aplix closures, I've had to alter it markedly so that my daughter's thighs are not scratched to ribbons. In the end I used buttons, which work OK but I dont want to make 20

As far as bulk - hmmm, depends what you call bulky. Too bulky for me, a dedicated Happy Heiny user. Also again to be fair, I turned and topstitched, which a I think adds some bulk and I was restricted to the fleece I had available locally which is a bit thicker than microfleece, even though it was called microfleece, LOL. They're extremely cute but we'll save them for summer under dresses.

Overall - I was just a teeny bit disappointed with the result - the pattern's so similar to my Lucy's Hope Chest AIO's but they were just much thicker, maybe they'll thin out a bit with washing.

I've been making the snugwraps instead and I've been thrilled with those. They are super easy, and come out looking totally professional, especially since I found little woven labels "For an Adorable Baby" which I sewed on the bum. But again I had to alter where the aplix went - I cut a rounded shape and bound it in at the edge with foldover elastic, and also didnt take the front panel right across the diaper but rounded the edges off an inch or so in. With the hemp contours I've got in matching colours, these make a really simple and trim little AIO. I really dont see any reason why this cover could simply be made side snapping instead without any alteration to the pattern.
