birth certificate? mad!!!!! - Page 2

I posted on another thread that...

My friend birthed a son at home, UC, in Boston.

They decided not to register his birth since it was the height of the Vietnam War and the military draft and birthday lottery.

Then she decided to register his birth since she learned he could not get a passport and registering for school or eventually going to college would be problematic.

She learned if she had waited much longer, it would have taken an Act of Congress to get him a birth certificate.

That would make for a very cool birth certificate!

What bugged me about getting my 2nd dd's SS card was that they wouldn't accept my midwife's (CNM) licensed letterheaded statement that she attended me during my pregnancy & birth as proof that this child was mine, but they would accept a baptismal record. Not to step on the toes of those who are religious, but it just blew me away that they would accept that over a licensed medical professional who had actually witnessed the birth (in truth she missed the birth, but they didn't know that). We had no problem once we had the birth certificate in hand, but we were trying to get the # before we received the certificate for tax reasons.
