I purchased some handpainted yarn for knitting dd#2 some soaker shorts. I started knitting today and found little bits of plant material (like little bits of dried grass or twigs). The plant material is pretty small, but I'm still a bit annoyed. What should I do? Is this normal? I've never purchased handpainted yarn before, I usually just go to my local yarn store or kool-aid dye my fisherman's yarn.

Very typical in natural wool. Some has more than others. I once returned an incredibly expensive skein of Artful Yarns to my LYS because it had about a million prickers in it that I swear were bug skeletons. It's often called "vegetative matter" and I think that is a funny term. I just pick the hay out as I knit. It does bug me a little too. I worry it will poke the baby.
