Wool Soaker Questions

I just finished my first wool soaker using one of the free patterns on here (yay!)

I must not have set the color right because it is bleeding onto my prefolds when they get wet. I dyed using kool-aid and just heated it on the stove until it was steaming and then let it cool.

It also seems to be shedding onto her skin. I'm not sure if this is normal for a soaker or not. I would think it would be kind of itchy to have little wet hairs stuck to your skin. The yarn is 100% wool. It doesn't say it is a certain kind, just 100% new zealand wool, aran knit. Is there anything I can do about this?

I just bought the LTK pattern so as soon as I get around to buying some size 6 circulars I'll be working on one of those.

Jen... did you use any vinegar when you dyed?

here is what I do:

Soak my yarn in water and a glug of vinegar for 5 minutes. Then I dye it. Let it sit. Microwave it for 10 minutes, then let it cool. I finish it off with another soak in the water/vinegar solution.

If you don't get enough heat going, and don't use the vinegar, you are going to see bleeding. And if it is any shade of red, you will just see bleeding just because.

Doh! I forgot the vinegar!

And it is purple, so that has some red in it, so I might be stuck. That's ok... I always wanted pink spotted prefolds

I dyed some other yarn all different colors and didn't soak that either... guess I'll just have to see how that holds up. At least this soaker is a solid color and I can re-dye it if necessary and set the color this time.

Thanks!

I think I"ve heard from CassDarrow that you can stick it in your crock pot with a bunch of vinegar and water and let it stew until all the water is clear. Yah, Cass?
