Need portable non-infant carseat suggestions

There's no way we can afford another Britax like the lovely Marathon that was in our car when it was stolen.

We've been using an infant seat someone loaned us, but pretty soon DD is going to go over the weight limits for it.

We still don't have our own car, so I need something I can easily and frequently install/remove from other people's cars, preferably that's also easily portable so I can take it on the bus and continue to get rides home from friends from evening activities.

Any suggestions?

We have a Graco comfort sport convertable carseat. It's fairly easy to install and uninstall. My sister has another seat for him, it's an Evenflo. Eli doesn't like it as much, but it's okay for every once in a while. Also very light and easy to install/uninstall.

I just wanted to add: if your daughter is big/old enough to be forward facing, you've got even more options. I've seen some really nice, lightweight carseats which are designed for travellers. There may be a rearfacing version, but all the ones I've seen are forward facing.

Nope, not ready for forward facing yet. She's only 7 1/2 mo.
