Dancer in the Dark

We recently rented this & I watched about half of it last night (until the dvd player started skipping) I'm going to have to watch the rest at my boyfriend's house.
It was the most haunting, beautiful, disturbing & heartbreaking movie I've seen in a long time.
Anyone else see this? Thoughts?

um...

saw it, really liked the music, but it kind of got to a point for me where it was just painful to watch, but at the same time I couldn't turn it off because it had to resolve, somehow, and I had to stick it out to the end... I think it's often a "loved it" or "hated it" movie - people think it's really great, or (moi) they won't ever bother to see it again - although I'd like to have the soundtrack, go figure!

I agree with elnachick
A good friend of mine and I saw it in the theatre. It was our mom's night out, we were really excited to see a movie with Bjork. We enjoyed it up to the very last scene. We thought everything was going to turn out okay. We expected a happy feelgood movie, and both of us left the theatre sad and disturbed.
I thought it was an excellent movie. My friend hated it because of the ending. I can't say I'd want to see it again, but I loved the idea of it, the music, Bjork and Catherine Deneuve and the rest of the cast.

Another Björk fan here

Beautiful movie, but very painful too. Björk was great, you truly feel her pain, and her happiness when she sings. Soundtrack is amazing. I must say though, that I got a little dizzy at the theatre, because of all the camera moving. I'd like to own it in DVD and watch it again.

Well I watched the rest of it last night. It was heartbreaking. But I thought very well done & I loved the music.
I wasn't disappointed by the ending; I kind of expected it.

when i said i didn't like it, i meant i was sad about what happened to Bjork's char (can't 'member her name now). but as i said, i was also glad it wasn't the typical happily ever after, life always works out thing. it was kind of fitting with all the crappy things that happened in the rest of the movie...

I couldn't make it to the end

My best friend and I were super excited to see a movie w/Bjork but it was just too painful to watch. I was going through some pretty heavy-duty depression of my own when we rented it and I guess I needed something a bit more escapist. This was just too real life, despite the surreal musical interludes. Oh yeah, I forgot about the camera work. Made me feel a tad sea sick. Anyway, I got to about the point where Bjork's character's $ got stolen and I had to turn it off.

NewMa, Be glad you turned it off there, then. It got way, way, way worse.

I loved that movie! I wasn't expecting a happy ending at all, so it was no surprise. I cried so hard at the end though, harder than I can ever remember crying at any movie. It was a totally heartbreaking movie to watch, but amazing, too. And I love the "train song" so much!! -Kelly
