In the last week I have heard the term "Chapter books" used, once by a 6 year old telling me about her school library and the other time on the show Arthur discussing the books he was reading. Can someone tell me what this is?????

my pet pieve - that's what they are!

It is so sad to me that kids (and parents too) think they need to rush into chapter books. There are so many picture books that are more difficult and written much better.

But if you need a list of good 'chapter' books, i can supply those too.

Okay, I think I get it....they are just books with Chapters and no pictures??? I don't think they used this term when I was a child...
Thanks Zealsmom! I agree, everyone seems to be in a rush these days, missing out on the really good things.....

Often they will still have some pictures; usually just some simple drawings, often without color.

From another perspective, in the Waldorf tradition they encourage chapter books because it allows the child to have their own pictures in their mind.

As far as the rush factor--I think it's nice for children to be read chapter books, not necessarily to rush into reading them themselves.

I think chapter books are wonderful. And, I love to read chapter books to children. Some of my most wonderful memories are of being read to or reading chapter books to children.

My favorite series: Swallows and Amazons!
