Week of May 24th.....UPDATES! - Page 2

I am 14 weeks, and am feeling pretty good. I never had too much nausea, just felt totally exhausted. I seem to be getting some energy back now, although I still get pretty tired toward the end of a busy day.

My belly is definately bigger and much rounder than it was. I can't wear jeans or too many pants because they feel too tight on my belly. I am not quite big enough to wear the maternity pants, so I have been wearing lots of elastic waist skirts and loose dresses for work.

QOTW: DH and I just decided to switch from the ObGyn to a midwife and have the baby at home! This is my first, so it was a little scary to switch from hospital to home birth, but I think it will be better for me and the baby. My sister just had her 2nd at home with this midwife and I was there to see how it went. My sister makes it look so easy, even the midwife was impressed! Anyway, my first appointment with the midwife is tomorrow, but I expect it will take a while so she can get caught up with me and request my medical records from the ObGyn. One thing I really like about her is the appointments will either be at her house or my house, so no more dr. offices!!

Sorry so long winded, it has been a while since I posted! Hope everyone is doing well!

He doesn't make pregnancy seem like something that needs to be "treated," just something to be aware of and check in on occasionally.
that is my OB too.

I guess I'm 16 or 17 weeks. lol I don't really keep track. lol It is still hard to believe I'm preggo! I was sick a few days ago, with a very bad stomach bug. I think I lost 2 lbs.

I went to the dr last week and we heard the heartbeat. Next month it will be ultrasound time. I *think* we are finding out what it is. My dh wants a girl so bad!

QOTW:
seeing a OB doc. Healthcare in this small town is just so-so. No one is AP in any sense of the word. No midwives that I know of. I might be comfortable with a homebirth if we lived closer to town. But we are like 15 minutes away. I won't take my chances. It is frustrating thinking of what we will do with our two boys when it is delivery time.

I had to wait for 2 hours to be seen last week. Then he was with me for like 3 minutes. ugh

My last hospital experience was really nice, just as natural as I wanted. So I hope this to be the same.

I'm 16 weeks 5 days and feel pretty big already... I've been in maternity since week 7!!!! Getting slightly sick of the 'is it twins?' joke.

I'm feeling really great though- put on like 12 lbs already, but I had just gotten to an all time low before getting pregnant this time so I'm actually still at a normal weight for me.

I see a lay midwife, in her home office about 50 minutes from my home every four weeks at this point. She schedules an hour for each visit which I totally was needing last time around (this is my second birth with her) but this time, I feel fine and just love hearing the heartbeat then we chat for a bit... pee on a protein strip and out I go. We have quite a bit of other contact though because we are in several homeschooling activities together and so we talk at other times to. I feel really lucky to have her because she leaves the parents in control on the tone of the patient/client relationship and the birth curcumstances.

Almost 17 weeks here! I'm still puking a couple times a week, but with DS that's what I did for most of the 2nd tri, so I'm not expecting too much. Of course, now, to add insult to injury, I have been peeing my pants when I puke...guess I had better increase my kegels!!

QOTW: Who are you seeing for your pg? Midwife? OB? Family practitioner? Anyone? No one? What are your appointments like? How long do they last? How often do you go?

I'm seeing an OB (same one as for DS). My appointments are pretty basic...nurse does weight, urine, and BP and then doc does tape measure and doppler. Today I had to sign waivers to skip the AFP and CF screens. Today's was unusually long...it took 1/2 hour to get called back and about 20 minutes between the nurse part and the doctor part. Thank god DH was home today with DS...usually I have DS with me. He would have been climbing the walls with an hour of waiting. Appointments are every four weeks until the last part (then every two and finally every week).

I'm nearly 18 weeks with babe #3. I've gained 6 lbs, which is very little for me. I had gained at least a lb. a week with my other pg. I'm hardly showing and barely into maternity clothes. It's all very strange! Feeling good, I do nap every day when my girls nap, so I'm keeping well-rested. No nausea. I have been dealing with a terrible outbreak of eczema. It's all over my belly and breasts. Yuck! Not only that, but it itches like crazy.

I see two midwives in a private practice. I'm most likely going to do another homebirth. Appts. last at least an hour and are wonderful. I feel so close to my midwives, I joked that I got pg just so we could hang out again! I go once a month right now--have an appointment tomorrow, in fact!

I went in today to my OB because I was having really bad cramping and of course was very scared that something had gone wrong..
They used the doppler, heard my baby's hb, I felt much better, then they wanted me to have an u/s to rule anything else out. Turns out I'm still a complete previa, so, who know's if this is gonna move enough for a vaginal birth or not, that thought has e freaking too!! I go back on June 7th for my regular scheduled u/s and I'll see the mw too. I was just so thankful to know that everything was ok I guess I get like this every time I get pg around the 4th to 5th months not including the pain i was in and all.
I lost a baby at 19 weeks so, its hard to deal with that each time I do have a pregnancy.

Anyone else have/heard of having a complete previa and the chance that it may move just a bit, enough for me to have a vaginal birth??? I'm so scared

Wow s Rachel. I'm glad to here that everything is okay!! You must have been so scared, and I'm sorry for your previous loss... everything becomes so much harder after you go through something like that!

I wanted to tell you that it's still so early for even a complete previa. I think that right now the baby has done a lot more developing, rather that really growing, and it's probably not big enough to effect much of a change on the position of the placenta. I was a partial previa at 18weeks and not at all previa by week 23 with ds. My doc told me that for the most part, unless there's an u/s done, most women don't know that their placentas were ever low because they move on their own. Now it's a worry earlier simply because we know it's there, not because it's really something to worry about. Did that even make sense??? brain is starting to happen...

More s, mama, I really hope that your placenta moves very soon.

TY, Annette!! Yes,that does make sense

It stinks cause its completely covering my cervix at just about 17 weeks, I go back in two weeks for my regular u/s appointment, then they will still do them once every 4 weeks till it either resolves itself or does'nt..

I have a midwife lined up but haven't seen her yet. I haven't been home (Canada) since I've been pregnant so I haven't seen anyone yet. It's very strange to be so far into it and not even had it "confirmed". I can't wait to hear that heartbeat!

I think I am about 18 weeks now and I am finally feeling the baby move That's the best part about being pregnant, isn't it?! There isn't a tremendous amount of movement, but its definately the baby...My last baby moved ALL the time and is still moving, even when he's resting/calm, *something* (his foot, his hands, etc.) is moving! So I think however much this baby moves, it won't feel like alot compared to my last one, lol!

QOTW:
I am seeing a group of three midwives, only met two so far but I meet the third on Monday. So far I really like one over the other! I show up and tell the receptionist I'm there, then I go right upstairs (their offices are in an old converted house) and do my own urine and weight. Then I go to the waiting room, and they've called me almost immediately so far. I tell her my urine results and weight, we chat then she checks my belly, the baby's hb and my bp. I'm there for about an hour total. Big difference from the ob practice I had with my last two pregnancies! Wait for almost an hour, the nurse does my chart then the doc measured me and listened to the baby's hb and was out the door...in less than 10 minutes.

What a good idea, I like the question thing Thanks for starting it!
