I checked six books out of the library.
Each had slightly different pictures and drawings, and together I was able to puzzle out how to do each stitch. I did the same with crochet, though I prefer knitting.
I've recently gotten back into it after 10 years off. I don't knit soakers like many people here tend to, though. In the last month, I've made several bean bags (to remember how to knit, perl, alternate between knitting and perling, make designs...), a hat (to learn to knit in the round), and now I'm almost done making a teddy bear (to learn to shape). My goal is to get good enough to make thin angora gloves to wear under my bike gloves in the deep, cold winter. I'm learning that there are zillions of things you can make knitting, and now I'm addicted. A friend showed me her awsome felted wool slippers. Hmmm. I want *those*.
