do you agree?
NPR = conservative

i dunno...
i'm a frequent listener and i'd definitely say most guests are left of center. not only that, but i'd also say most npr interviewers have a liberal slant in their questioning.

Umm, my dh has been watching the quiet stacking of their board with conservatives, over the last few years...and some reporters have really been blatantly so with underreporting of protests and so on...I even attended one of the prewar, DC antiwar demonstrations so I could pretty well "guess-timate" the number of attendees. We were outraged when on the way home, we heard NPR's reporter way lowball the number. Upon my homecoming from that day, I immediately emailed my outraged and named names too.

So, more and more, there really has been an uncurrent of moving NPR decidedly right of wherever they were. They USED to tell the truth when others shied from it, so in my opinion, this ain't a good sign.

There are so few outlets that are trustworthy when it comes to news and reporting on matters of interest or concern as it is.

But heck, who am I and what do I know? Nothing other than for myself.

some affiliates who carry npr are more left of center than others. I personally think NPR is more centered than left or right. I hear pieces that speak to both sides..if I can u se the word sides.

I also think, if anything, they are moving more toward the center. They used to be more to the left, but the last few times I've listened I've noticed that their reporting seems to have less of a bias to it (liberal, conservative, or otherwise). The raging conservatives I know still think they're liberal, but they don't curse them up and down as prime evil anymore. And the raging liberals I know still listen pretty faithfully and don't complain very much. And I'm pretty much smack dab in the middle and like them very much... I think they're more honest than just about any other U.S. news source out there.

Anyway, for whatever that's worth...

I agree that they are moving more towards the center. I'm pretty conservative myself, but have always listened to them (both for convenience (in the car) and because I like multiple POV) and I used to think they were very liberal but I don't find myself thinking that very often now. I'm pleased with the move, though, because I think it is more balanced so more people will listen, because they still cover things in greater depth and with more intelligence than the soundbites on the TV news. Was so sad to get out of the car this morning and miss the end of the piece on the black tank division during WWII -- it was fascinating!

"...they still cover things in greater depth and with more intelligence than the soundbites on the TV news."

I do agree with you there!

I like that they are slightly liberal, but not knee-jerk or dogmatic. I don't like being told what to think.

I take NPR as quite liberal.

In fact my gut reaction to this thread was a good laugh.

Sort of like thinking Fox was liberal.

me too, however I do find that they do not mind stepping out of political dogma to cover a topic as they see it. I find that they use intelligent, diverse critical thinking in the stories 99% of the time...and that just happens to fall LEFT of center

I think of Fox as being very biased, and NPR more balanced. If it is an issue like breastfeeding, then they try too hard to be balanced.
