Sewing Cotton Pads

I read the other thread about natural moontime pads, and was wondering if anyone had any tips on making your own? I'm sorta handy with a sewing machine.

What are the best construction methods? How many layers of fabric? snaps vs velcro? Anyone tried just making moontime pantys? where you sew the pad directly onto the crotch?

I'd like to try this but need some assistance.

I made my own a few years ago. I simply used scraps of flannel that I already had. I used a cloth pad that I'd bought from Natural Baby Company as a pattern. This pad was only 2 layers of flannel, but was folded several times and attached to underwear with velcro. The edges of the velcro drove me crazy so I didn't use it and simply pinned the pads in place which quickly made holes in my underwear. These pads are so raggedy and embarrassing looking, I dread being in a car accident or something while wearing them! I've considered copying the GladRags design which is an hourglass shape that snaps underneath. Anyway, I've now bought The Keeper which has greatly reduced my need for pads. I do think cotton flannel is the ideal fabric.

Thanks, I do have plenty of left over flannel I can use. And I was thinking of using a terry cloth core?

Thanks for the tips.
