questions about kefir grains and quality

Hi all

I want to start making some raw milk kefir and have gotten a couple of links off this site as sources to get kefir grains. I haven't heard back from Dom, who seems like the king/queen of kefir, but did hear back from someone in NH who is willing to mail me some for $10. I can't tell how much the quality of the grains would vary or whether I should worry about this. Does it matter how he's treated them over the time he's used them in terms of their nutritional power? He plans on packing them in dried milk. Is that a safe way of mailing them?

Any insight into this would be great?

Thanks
Angie

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, because I'm having a problem with my kefir grains at the moment. The kefir I make tastes a bit musty and I prefer the yogurt I make better. It helped when I fasted the grains on water.

The best place to find info about kefir is Dom's Yahoogroup at:
