Stepford Wives

I just wanted to be the first to post on this subject so that I can make a prediction.

I am already vibing on a camp factor and so.....

I PREDICT that this film will instantly become a cult favorite. I predict Stepford Wives parties where the movie will be played and people wear stiff dresses and serve perfect meals and recite dialogue.. ala Rocky Horror Picture Show.. and Showgirls.

Midnight showings of Stepford wives at certain theaters...

just my prediction.

LOL....you may be right! There is going to be interviews with the cast tonight on Primetime Live...I think that's the name? Diane Sawyer is the host and it's on at 10 pm on 4. I really want to see this. I saw the old one a long time ago. I told John(dh)that I want to see it and he goes "But it seems like they are turning it into a comedy" and I told him I always heard it was supposed to be a comedy...like a dark comedy...funny and creepy at the same time. He saw the old one with me a long time ago and he said he thought it's just a moral message movie. Well...I think it's both. And I also said Matthew Broderick is in it and he knows I've always thought he was cute....I shouldn't have admitted it though...it's not like I like him as much as I used too....Sarah Jessica Parker....darn you....

I predict it will bomb at the box office. It already had terrible reviews from test audiences ( I think they had to reshoot the ending ).

I am a fan of the book and the first movie, which were not campy, but frightening.

Just my prediction, I could be wrong!!

edited to add:

I will be extremely surprised if they stick with the original ending, more likely it will become a Hollywood ending.

Also, the original movie from 1975 is a cult classic so it may happen with this one as well.

I agree that this movie sucks! (Haven't seen it, have no intention of seeing it...it looks absolutely horrible and there are too many big names in it)

My dh and I predict that this movie will be so horrible, there will be a sequel out next year.

I am loving that!!! :LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL

Sadly, it's probably true.

Or they could remake the other Stepford movies:

Revenge of the Stepford Wives
The Stepford Husbands
The Stepford Children

:LOL
I agree that it will never be able to live up to the original but enough ppl will probably see it so that they do make the sequels.

I loved the original and plan to rent and watch it again before I see this one, which I will wait to come on video. I had no idea there was a book, will have to look into getting that too!

There was a Stepford Husbands made in 1996 or something. Look it up if you're interested. I meant to watch, but there were something better on TV that night.

The book is...disappointing, I think. The end is nothing like the end of the movie, but the rest is practically word-for-word.

Did y'all know that the author penned several cult classics? Rosemary's Baby, The Boys from Brazil...I think there are others.

OT: I LOVE Boys from Brazil -- uber creepy!

Did not realize that the same author wrote all of those.

I'll admit it, I'm Stepford curious, but I don't think it will do all that well at the box office.

Here is a review of the movie and its problems. They say it has "bad buzz."

WARNING: It contains spoilers... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,121172,00.html

Ira Levin is the author. I thought the end of the book and the end of the 70's movie were about the same, except the movie is more graphic in explaining what happened? But I haven't seen it in a while, so I could be remembering it wrong. Definitely a classic they shouldn't be remaking, imho.

Trivia: In the original movie, Peter Masterson plays the Matthew Broderick role and Masterson's real-life daughter plays his daughter in the movie (Mary Stuart Masterson at age 9 in her first movie role). OK, I am a movie trivia nut.

I remember the first STepford Wives very clearly. And it did become a cult favorite...but I just think this one will get its own following...in a campy way. Just can feel it.
I actually think the people who are in it said yes because of the campiness of the original...certainly mathew broderick and bette midler...maybe even Nicole.

I remember about ten years ago my friend and I were throwing a party and she was cutting some fruit and out of nowhere she took the knife and put it in piece of fruit and said, "I bleed, Karen, do you??!!!"""" totally a scene from the movie and I couldn't stop laughing because I knew EXACTLY what she was doing without her even telling me....

I can't WAIT for this to come out!

i loved the original.

i have no plans to see the remake. after a comment made about it in a certain magazine i read i'm completely disinterested ~ they said that while the first was a reaction to women being suppressed, this new one is meant to be a reaction to women taking over men. i don't think i like the new spin that implies... kwim?

maybe the angle is men who are sick of women wearing pants/promotions/career movements/childrenindaycare/etc... and so they are 'revolting' against it by having them 'stepfordized'?

don't know if that is it, just a guess...

He also wrote This Perfect Day, a great dystopian novel.

i don't like that. (that was basically the reason behind the original.)

Cranberry,
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
in the original movie, it ends with the main character supposedly getting killed by her robot double, they cut to a grocery store scene where the Stepforded version of her sees the black woman, but acts all weird...the end.

In the book, well, there's a capture scene instead of the woman going to the mansion on her own (am I the only one who thought that was very, very stupid of her?). Then, there's all this implication about her getting Stepfordized (nothing said specifically), and then it ends with the black woman and her husband getting ready to go on their very special "vacation".

I preferred neither ending, actually. I thought they both left something to be desired, but at least the book ended "cleaner".

Okay, I'm a nut, I know. But, I've recently watched the movie and read the book, so this stuff is still in my head. :LOL

Ok I have to admit I loved the orginal but had no interest in seeing the new one until I found out that one of the stepford couples is bette midler with jon lovits. How hysterical is that????

This is a little off-topic but until yesterday I didn't know Stepford Wives was being remade as a movie and the night before last I had this incredibly vivid cinematic dream about Curves being some sort of cult thing where after a month you were invited to go to their "special getaway weekend". The first thing I thought of when I woke up was that it was a cross between Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby.

Hmm.

Too much Clary Sage in my moisturizer.

Thanks Chaka for the info. Now I have to re-read the book. I know it's somewhere in my house...
