What did you/are you going to eat for your "first supper" after the baby is born?

I need ideas. After my last birth, I didn't eat for a long time... just too excited. But I think I should eat a lot after this birth because I'll be nursing *2* babies (19 MO and NB).....

I'm thinking champagne...:LOL with ?

A homemade Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and whipped cream and then maybe another one with fresh banana and walnuts and Vermont maple syrup... (I like breakfast more than I like any other meal of the day. )

I actually have this planned out. My mom has promised to bring me brie and a sourdough/french baguette and a bottle of Spanish crianza. :

No plans - after Boo was born, my DH went looking for something for me to eat (at 5:30 - 6:00 AM in the hospital !). Found nothing. One of the midwives got me this vile tasting sandwich out of the fridge - I could only scarf down about 4 bites before I had to stop eating it.

The hospital provided a breakfast for me though - muffin, juice, fruit, I don't remember what else.

And my IL's brought Swiss Chalet take-out over for our supper that night (we were home by noon).

My first supper after DS was born was reheated pizza.

This time, I've got a few ideas, depending on the time of day/what I feel like...

If it's the middle of the night, probably just a bowl of cereal. I'm going to have an icecream cake in the freezer & we'll sing "Happy Birthday" to the baby whenever we're ready for that (DS is 2, so thats partly for him, partly for my sweet tooth!! ) If a full meal is in order, I'll have DH or my mom barbecue something. Another plan is to have fresh fruit during labour (with Kahlua Dip) so I might want to munch on whatever is left-over from that.

Oh yeah, and a Guinness (sp?) Purely to help breastfeeding off to a good start... I won't enjoy it. Really, I won't!

First and third births, I didn't eat anything right after the birth because it was middle of the night or very early morning, and I just wanted to go to bed. But second birth it was late afternoon and I was VERY hungry! I had a couple of bowls of puffed kashi cereal, and then some pad thai. I couldn't believe how good it all tasted. This time I'm planning on having my favorite Thai chili noodles. (I LOVVVE Thai food! )

I don't remember what I ate after ds's birth. It was a fast labor and I went to bed so it was quite a while before I had a meal and the sparkly memory faze was over by then.

This time I want sloppy joes and pineapple upside down cake, both from scratch. I LOVE sloppy joes but tomato has been so bad for my reflux this pg that I have avoided it and a special occasion is about the only time I can get someone to make me a pineapple upside down cake. Maybe I'll have a beer with it, too.

HomebirthHarriet-FYI, our family LOVES your Kahlua dip. The first time we made it we used the dregs of our Kahlua bottle, though, so we topped it off with Meyers rum. It is really good like that. Now we have it on any special party occasion! What fruit do you like best with it? We dig the strawberries and found that apples aren't bad either. Pineapple and honeydew melon are a no-go, though. :LOL

I had a bite of placenta, and a can of chicken noodle soup. I just didn't feel so hungry. Maybe because I had eaten a huge dinner in the very early stages of labor.

Homebirth Harriett: Can you share your Kahlua dip recipe? It sounds delicious, especially with all the fresh fruit that's coming into season here...

Kalhua Dip

1 package Vanilla Instant Pudding
1 cup Milk
1 large container Cool Whip
1/2 cup Kahlua

Mix pudding & milk until smooth. Stir in Cool Whip. Fold in Kahlua. Chill at least 1 hour. Serve with fruit.

I've had it with strawberries, honeydew, canteloupe, watermelon (yum!), grapes, pineapple... on a spoon... I think it would be good with nectarines.

You can substitute strong, cold coffee for the Kahlua if you want to make a non-alcohol version of it, or just use a 1/4 cup of Kahlua. Some people substitute real whip cream for the Cool Whip, I think... ?

I'm not too concerned about the alcohol, myself. I figure I'll probably consume about the same amount of alcohol as having one drink over 2 hours or less.

I just posted an Orange-Pecan French Toast Casserole recipe over on the July due date forum (the "What are you going to do first" thread). It sounds yummy to me!

With ds, I was on mag sulfate for 24 hours after his birth. So they put me on that foul liquid hospital diet. There is nothing worse than hospital broth. Luckily, they had Cup-O-Soup at the nurse's station and fixed it with about 10 saltine crackers! (You can tell what they thought of that liquid diet!)

Dh brought me Panera Bread sandwiches while I was confined to the hospital, then church members brought us casseroles, cakes, homemade chicken noodle soup. . . They brought us food every day for a week! I don't think our current church will do that.

My Mom also brought us several meals the next week.

Dh has really been trying to get his weight back down. But I'm looking forward to PIZZA! And lots of it! I want Donato's and LaRosa's. And Tony Boombozz (which is 1 1/2 hours away : ). I'm afraid my nursing appetite is going to kill his weight loss effort!

My first was a c-section, so for the first day, I had nothing. The dr did bring me some watermelon that night because I wanted something to eat, but the nurse didn't want me to eat because I had no bowel sounds (castor oil cleaned me out, and I had no food for 24 hours, I wouldn't have bowel sounds until I had food). The first real food I ate was pepper steak.

With my daughter the hospital gave me a chicken sandwich and carrot cake. I love carrot cake. But I was craving sesame chicken. Craved it during labor too.

Pizza after my first (the in-laws picked one up on their way to visit - we did homebirths). I remember that I was STARVING! After my 2nd I went to sleep b/c it was night, but in the morning I just wanted donuts! So the in-laws brought me my 2 favorite kinds. After I give birth I tend to feel kinda like I'm recovering from being the kind of sick where you don't eat for a few days and then have a slow start eating solids again, so I have to go with whatever I think I can stomach. For me that always seems to be junk food! I also drank OJ like a good Bradley girl should.

i'm planning hashbrowns with ketchup, fried eggs, spinach salad and a huge glass of orange juice!

We were at home. DH made blueberry-buttermilk pancakes. Oh, they were super. I ate them in bed with baby next to me. It was a happy time.

(today is her first birthday--I'm getting wistful.)

Ohhh...I am so craving some fish tacos (not the fried kind- they are good, REALLY! ) and a mango margarita!!! But alas...I'll be nursing so the fish will be in moderation and the margarita will be shared with dh...
