Last time, it was all Bob Dylan, all the time.... all five hours. :LOL This time, maybe some more Dylan, that Mickey Hart that everyone else mentioned, some Bob Marley... we'll see what strikes me.

Oh, I have to give 2 thumbs up for Richie Havens. His voice was like buttah during those tough contractions.

My faves are:

Just Like A Woman
Here Comes The Sun
Peace Train
Follow

Those songs still bring me back...

Wow.. I never thought of listening to Richie Havens... his voice IS like butta. I'll hafta recommend that one to my friend who is fighting off contractions as we speak (a little too early for the baby to come yet).
I really enjoyed The Cowboy Junkies The Trinity Sessions Joni Mitchell Don Juan's Reckless Daughter (or anything by Joni, really) and Bob Marley was really nice, and the midwives really enjoyed it too.
Best of luck! lisa

I rocked out to Nikka Costa on your birth ball. She got one of the songs from that album in a commercial and I tear up every time I hear it now.

Mickey hart's Music to be born By (one of his baby's actual heartbeat is the base of the insturmental meditation music designed for labour)
James Taylor's Greatest Hits "In my mind I'm gone to Carolina...."
Gerry Garcia Band...the one with I Shall Be RELEASED!
But I may be somewhat of a Deadhead.....

I had made the wierdest compliation CD for labour. Truly, it was odd. But I wanted music that had been important to me at various times in my life. So my CD had:

Van Morrison
Culture Club
Seal
John Denver ("Annie's Song" - I still sing it to DD)
Andrea Bocelli
Frank Sinatra
The Irish Descendents
Roxy Music
Pachelbel
AC/DC

There was a lot more, but my iTunes seems to have eaten my playlist

My doula had lots of mellow CDs, like Enya and nature sounds, which were also helpful. But the nurses and I had a great time with my CD!

I love this thread!

My DH put on one of my favorite albums, Effector by Download, during the end part of labor. In the beginning I wanted quiet, and then my family arrived to attend me, so the room was filled with chatter and warmth. Afterwards, DH put on Central Reservation by Beth Orton which will forever more remind me of the birth.

I have always meant to play Peter Gabriel's "Passion" -- but it never felt right in the moment. Too serious, I guess. I ended up playing only a little music, groovy upbeat stuff before I hit transition, then I didn't want any sound. In one labor it was Lenny Kravitz, in another it was Santana. With my last my husband put on Crash Test Dummies, his favorite -- while I was in transition -- and I was like "Whaaa?" It was SO wrong and ridiculous it had me laughing inside even though I was in so much pain. :LOL
