Have you used these curriculum's?

I am looking mostly at Abeka and C.L.A.S.S. right now, mostly because they come in full kits, and are both more or less within our price range.

Have you used either of these?

What were your likes/dislikes?

Can these curriculum's be re-used later on for other kids? (Like my 1st grader can eventually use my 3rd graders stuff?)

We have been told that the spelling isn't great for Abeka, so I'm looking into modern curriculum press' spelling lessons. (any feedback on that?)

Thanks so much for all the help and support!

Jodi,
We have Abeka books and my kids have enjoyed them. Some of it is consumible worktext, which means the pages were designed to be written on & to be used as a textbook, but you can offer child a piece of paper to write their answers out on in order to reuse this with another child or have them use pencil and you erase or white-out.
Some suggestions to look at for spelling are
http:www.acsi.org and http://www.avko.org/Sequential_Spell...spelling_1.htm

both are excellent, but materials are meant to be used for one child, however we got a spelling cd rom game for the computer that the parent can insert spelling words and you could just use them from the workbooks later on to make your own spelling study that would be grade appropriate.

I had this site emailed to me today and went WOW at the price, but the list of materials they are suggesting are excellent ones

a cheaper similiar curriculum is Christian Liberty Press-

Did you get a rainbow resources catalog? Do you have a hs friend with used stuff to look at nearby? I found that I can hand down some things but not all materials even if they were meant to be used by more then one child.

I would try to hold off on buying much and then go to a hs conference, to really look over books firsthand before paying much. It is really easy to buy too much the first years you hs.
