something with the moon? preterm contractions.

Chloe was born at 41.5 wks, after having to be induced, so I had no intentions of just having contractions.

So I go to work sunday ....(I work 4 days a month) and about noon I start having some subtle cntx. No biggie, I've been getting the braxton hicks for weeks...but its super busy..and I push it off and off and 4 pm rolls around and I realize, I've been having them for 4 hrs, they are not going away and they are getting longer and closer.

Convieniently, I work in the hospital...so I head down to labor and delivery and they put me on the monitor...yup, cntx. They left me on for 20 min, had to stay on my side in bed. (Made me remember just why I chose homebirth)
thankfully, the contractions died down and the ending strips showed an irritable uterus. Once I was in bed, they weren't like they were when I was upstairs working.

They wanted to do an internal..but I refused..had they found me even a lil dialated they would have HAD to admit me, I just went home, called my midwife and took a nap...no more labor

So I noticed other july mamas having cntx too..and funny thing my midwife, who does about 10-12 births a year...had 2 births on sunday, and me calling with preterm contractions...she said the moon was in a phase or something...cuz it was unreal for her to get so many calls lol

The moon is full soon, but there have been studies showing no real increase in labor with respect to lunar phase.

If anything, it would be a connection between the lunar TIDES rather than phase...

I am glad the contrax stopped (they made you rest on your side? YUCK)
Sorry you are going through this too...

I am glad the contractions stopped! Had you been drinking enough?

Did they say they would *have* to admit you because of dialation? I haven't been admitted yet despite all that is going on, they just call my doctor and she lets me go home to my bed and that I better stay there

I was drinking enough, but I was also doing the job of 2 people and it was stressful, but the good, busy stress that makes the day go by quick.

my hospital is big on policy and the midwife on call explained that legally if I'm having cntx on the monitor and I was found to be dialating they just couldn't send me home, it would be considered 'dumping' if something were to happen..
I'm not too sure since I don't work L&D, but like in the ER we can't send people away until they are fixed up first.

I think its the same principal and I think it has a technical name that starts with an A....lol

I'm so glad things are calm and normal....its 120 today and I was able to hang out in the pool with dd, contraction free
