A letter from my mom -after our "Recognition Night " ceremony

I just wanted to let you know how proud I was of all my
grandchildren last night and how proud I am of you and Jerral of the
wonderful job you two are doing in homeschooling your children. I have
always known that you two were doing a great job, but seeing everything last
night up close and personal really put a touch of finesse on everything. I
was just blown away by all the achievements and all of the talented kids
that performed last night. I was almost brought to tears by all of it. How
I wish Mimi could have been there to see it(but I am sure she did see it).
I think it is wonderful how all of you network with each other and give each
other the encouragement that you need to keep going. I hope all of you that
get the Star-Telegram saw the article of the two boys that graduated from
Azle that were home schooled. I am just amazed and awed at the
accomplishments that these kids have shown and at the dedication and hard
work put in not only by the children but by the parents as well. To all of
you, my hat is off! I wish I had known more about home schooling when you
were in school. I also wish home schooling was known more about when I was
in school. I might have been a lot better in math had we known about it.
It was my one really hard subject.

I hope that you will forward this to your homeschooling friends. I just
think all of them are doing a most fantastic and wonderful job. It amazes
me how they combine all the skills - academics, sports, social, and family
times all together and blend them so well. I think that is the problem with
the public schools these days and why there are so many kids that graduate,
get their diploma, and can't read a lick when they get out of school and
then have such a hard time with college, if they even go to college. I will
tell you this - your grandfather started looking at the homeschooling in a
whole new light when he saw how your kids were progressing and after last
night and today's article, he really sees it in a whole new light. So to
all of you homeschoolers out there: "Don't ever stop what you are doing -
you are turning out extremely smart, talented, well-balanced children
-children that the future of our world needs - I feel that these are the
children that will help bail our world out in the future because they are
solidly grounded". I am not saying that there are not those in public
school that are not smart, but we all know that there are some in public
school that don't get the help they need to succeed because they don't get
the one on one that you give them. So, to all of you, hang in there, and
never, ever give up.

A very proud Mother and Grandmother

That's so sweet! Were they supportive all along, or has their opinion changed after seeing how well homeschooling is working for you and your family?

We are considering homeschooling and are feeling a lot of resistance from friends and family, so I'm just a lurker Yours is the type of story I need to read!

Mamalisa

My mother was supportive but you could tell she had her doubts.
My grandfather thought we were headed for disaster I think. He has his degree and all ( I still think his life experience has served him better than that piece of paper over the years but what do I know??)
We have been lucky that most people around us have been very supportive
