i do want to look it over, but...

i would love to plant this baby's placenta in the yard under a tree, but my dear, beloved, squeamish husband doesn't want to see it, talk about it, keep it, or even acknowledge it - let alone have a ritual and plant it!

i think my first placenta must have gotten incinerated in the hospital freezer, and i know my second placenta is planted under a flowering bush (?i think?) in the yard of my midwife's ex-husband's house.

but i'm with those of you who aren't going to EAT the thing. no way, no how! not my thing at all!

Did you mean to post this in the placenta thread?

I planted my last child's placenta under a tree, no ritual. I'm just not a ritual kinda gal. My husband wasn't involved at all -- I'm the gardener in the family. :LOL

Yes, and I have no idea why it didn't go there. I was there, tried to reply, and when I tried to post what I'd written the software complained that I didn't have all the info I need. So I typed something into the "title" bar and next thing I knew I'd somehow started a new thread.

Anyway, I wouldn't be up to planting anything all by myself right after I have a baby, and if I try to keep the placenta in the freezer till both the weather and I are ready, my husband would protest mightily. September isn't exactly planting season around here.

I guess the midwife will just take it home again. Oh well. It isn't like we're going to live here for the rest of our lives anyway - at least, I don't particularly expect to.

Are you vegans? If not... well, the placenta is *much* cleaner and fresher than the butchered meat people put in their bodies. So it's not like it's going to hurt anything in the freezer. And it wouldn't have to be long before you planted it either, since fall is a very good time to plant trees. If you would *love* to do it, I say tell your husband to take a chill pill and do what you want!

we aren't vegans, but i can't believe placenta is kosher. it feels like cannibalism to me, so i'm sure it did to the rabbis of yore, also.

anyway, if my mother-in-law is here when the baby is born (highly likely), perhaps we would plant the placenta under a new tree or bush, but otherwise i think it isn't that important to me. if i thought we were going to live here a rteally long time, and this child was going to come home to this house as an adult and be able to show his partner "his" tree, then i would be a lot more up for the bother of it, but having my midwife take it away is perfectly acceptable, really.

but thanks for the ideas!

I will definitely be planting something over this placenta! I actually didn't really see the others, but I do want to see this one. I have to figure out what to plant over it, although likely I'll have dh bury the placenta in an assigned spot, and plant whatever it will be, in that spot myself when I'm able.

I was out in the garden within a week of my last birth, so as long as I don't buy a HUGE tree, I should be ok.
