Here is my hangup about HS, for our family. I want to go back to school and get my nursing degree. I want to work part time while the kids are in school. Is this possible? my oldest son wants to HS, we may be moving from Tn to Ohio next month. They seem to have a large HS population in the Columbus area, so networking should not be too hard. I am really afraid of screwing up my kids education though. I am a major procrastinator, and totally disorganized and I get in these moods where I don't want to go anywhere or do anything. I am at a loss of what to do. My middle is going into K this year and looking forward to school, but I think he wouldn't care if his older brother were home and with moving to a new area he wouldn't have friends right away anyway. Any thoughts on this?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Okay, some thoughts.
Do you think you can screw it up worse than the schools can? Probably not.
Me too! Somehow, they learn anyway. You still manage to get them out the door though, right? Keeping at least one home will make that part easier.
Then just try it. The worst that could happen is he does absolutely no schoolwork. And you know what? That doesn't mean he didn't learn.
Another thought is you might be able to take night courses or distance courses.

Dear hvl25,
Just reading your post, I have the impression that life is giving you the wonderful opportunity to try something new. If your son wants to spend more time with you - go for it! Especially when you will have a large community of hs'ers for you both to meet! Sounds perfect! Sure, you'll have days when you don't feel that you're doing a good job but believe me - that is also true as a nurse, and I speak from experience. Besides, when you do go back to work, you will benefit from having learned to be more organized. The hours are also crazy - so you definately have psych yourself up to do things when you don't feel like it.
I worked as a nurse for five years before staying home. We are hs'ing. I didn't really plan to, but it has been a natural outgrowth of attachment parenting. However, I am taking 2 correspondence courses in midwifery, so that when I do want to transition back to the world of work, I will be somewhat in the know of things. Distance learning has worked well for me and it may be something you would want to explore.
Best of luck!

I'm going to take some classes in the fall and will be hsing my 8 yr old dd. I'm just counting on it working out. I'm also not the most organized person, tend to put things off, etc, but I think having more of a schedule will actually help. It will force me to be more organized. I have had too much time on my hands this past year and then it's easier to waste it.
My dd will be 9 in the fall and could either come with me to class, stay home for an hour (we just live a couple blocks from the university), have my dh come home or her go to his office or go to a friends house when need be.
My biggest dilemma is what I want to do in going back to school. I need to figure that out this summer.
Good luck. I would give it a go. If it doesn't seem to be working out, you can rethink it, but it won't hurt to give it a try. You might be surprised how well it could work out.

Another thought after rereading your post is that by the time you finish school your kids may be old enough to spend some time at home while you work.

Thanks for all the replys. I keep thinking maybe if I do a class here or there, or maybe go for LPN first then onto RN and do it slower , that it won't be so bad. I get so overwhelmed sometimes and that worries me too. But I think part of that is I hate where I live right now and don't have any ties here, no friends after living here for over a year and no family nearby. We will be finding out tomorrow if we are moving next month to the Columbus Ohio area. They seem to offer alot for homeschoolers and are even putting together a coop which I think would help me out alot. I think if I could get some sort of schedule with classes for them to go to and maybe me take a class or 2 per semester that it may work out. Also, my oldest son will be 11 in March and by the time I may need to take a day class he will be around 13 or so and should be able to handle the younger 2 for a couple hours a couple times a week if I have to take a day class. The other 2 would be 8 and 5 by then, roughly. I am just so afraid of failing at this and the schools in the area we are looking are awesome from what I have heard. The downfall if we have to stay here and will be here (NE TN) when school starts is I don't want them going back to where my oldest son was last year. I hated that school, but there is little support here for HS, most of it is religious based and there are no museums of quality for at least a 2 hour drive or more. It stinks. But thanks for all your encouragement.
