|Latest research is that babies start to produce IGA at 17 weeks gestation, and since a lot of foods can take up to a month to get our of your body I will be going on a full elimination diet after the first trimester.
My 3.5 year old is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, soy and egg. She outgrew a dairy allergy just before her 2nd birthday, since she is still nursing I am already free of everything except dairy, so in another 7 weeks I will be eliminating the dairy from my diet too. I will stay on this elimination diet until the baby is 2, and then add in dairy first, then eggs, then soy. I don't think I will ever add in tree nuts to peanuts and just hope that any accidental exposures this baby gets as a child will not cause an allergic reaction.
|Immunoglobulin A (IgA)
One of the five classes of immunoglobulins produced by humans (the others being IgE , IgD , IgG and IgM ).
IgA is found circulating and secreted on all defended body surfaces, as the primary defense against invaders. Secretory ( sIgA ) is found in large amounts in breast milk, saliva and gastrointestinal secretions. IgA may also be an important and effective antibody in sites other than mucosal tissues, such as the central nervous system. IgA inhibits the binding of micro-organisms to mucosal surfaces, thus preventing entry. sIgA deficiency is associated with increased gastrointestinal tract permeability and increased manifestations of delayed patterns of food allergy .
IgA has a dimeric structure and represents about 10-15% of the body's total immunoglobulin.
