Oh, this has been awful...I have had a migraine, which is finally lessening, but it's been with me for 2 days.
UGH!!!
Anyone else get these?

I haven't had one in a while. I usually go lay in the bathtub with the lights out. The warm water and dark are what helps me.

thanks

I'll try that. I am starting to feel a little bit better, so I think maybe it's beginning to disappear!

Mamalisa, you have my sympathies, a few weeks ago I was being stalked by migraines and I started a thread asking for help (on the I'm pregnant board I think) Lots of mamas wrote back with great suggestions. Epsom salt bath helped me kick one out before it became permenant. Lots and Lots of water and I drink a big Iced coffee (midwife approved as a remedy) as soon as I feel one coming on. Yesterday my midwife wrote me a script for Fovra a newish drug that is okayed for pregnant moms. I want to have something on hand so I don't miss half a week again due to the migraine, but probably will only use it if really necessary. Do you have a chiropractor you could call? Somebody also recomended homeopathy treatments, but I haven't bought any yet. Good luck and I hope you feel great soon. Also, I keep lavender oil on hand and rub some on my temples at the first sign of a headache. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't make a dent.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will definitely keep them in mind! I am off to have an iced coffee right now, and I do have lavender in the house because I use it in my wash when I do cloth diapers! (works great on smells!)

Just wanted to add my sympathies... I have had chronic migraines since I was 5 yrears old, and they are absolutely horrific to go through, even when you can take pain medication. Tylenol does nothing for them, and it's pretty much the safest tried and true med for women.

I second the coffee. I cut all caffeine out with pg#1, and was fine, no headaches, it was great. This time, I've been getting them, and I have 2cups of coffee if I feel one coming on in the morning. There is a risk associated with caffiene, but most sources say it doesn't start until 3-4cups daily. Yeah, I feel a bit guilty, but I figure it's better than getter stressed about missing more time at work, and being sick with the pain.

Also, from the previous thread, ice on your head and your hands and feet in hot water helps. I've always used ice on my forehead, and it really does at least dull the pain.

And drink water until you feel that you'll float away. This I can't stress enough, dehydration triggers migraines, as well as worsens them.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!! s

I feel for you having migraines your whole life. There is nothing worse than being awake at 3am, sitting straight up in bed because your head hurts too badly to let it even touch the pillow. It's excrutiating to say the least? Do you get any visual disturbances? I sometimes get those geometric things in my left eye, but mostly, it's little flecks of light and a bit of dizziness. I should have known it was coming because I felt very nauseated yesterday morning.
I think I triggered mine by eating a hot dog. I hear Nitrates are horrible for migraine sufferers, and I probably only eat 2 hot dogs a year...but this time, I paid the price! It's almost gone now, thankfully!

Thanks. Glad to here you're feeling better!

Mine have gotten A LOT better since I got married... it was stressful at my parent's house. I used to get visual disturbance when I was a kid, and then it would hurt until I threw up and then I'd feel washed out but better. Now they are just excruciating. Throwing up doesn't help. Sometimes I get numb in one of my arms first.

Hot dogs aren't great for them, no. But I generally find that there are two things that trigger them, like stress and too much chocolate. Hormones and not enough water... you know? And low barametric pressure sends me right over the edge... and you can't control the weather.

Anyhow, take care, and I hope they stay away for you!!!

Hi Lisa & Annette. Just wanted to chime in & share my sympathies. I too suffer the horrible migraines. And Annette, we must be migraine twins -

All this stuff gets me too, especially the weather. That & stress are the worst for me. It's interesting to note that all the women in my family, back to my grandmother, have migraines. (Her doctor used to tell her to go away for a couple days for r & r. Wish someone would tell me that!) Another interesting thing, when I was pg w/my son I was practically migraine free. W/both my daughters I had constant migraines & vomitting. I guess some form of hormonal connection.

I hope you are feeling better Lisa. Take good care of youself. And hey, maybe go away for a couple days...

My Mom is convinced because I'm so much sicker with this one that it's a girl... I didn't get more than 1-2 headaches with ds, I actually felt great most of the time.

Migraines run in my family also. Only it's my Dad and his side of the family. He had one for 4 days this week due to the weather (and he tends not to take care of himself sometimes).

Anyhow, thanks for commiserating. Sorry we have to be in this "club"...

I hear ya! It's bad enough having migraines, but to have migraines while preggo, that is just not right. My heart goes out to you. What trimester are you in? For me, they were much worse in the first. I am talking daily. Then things got better w/the remaining time, and better still after the baby was born.

My sympathies to all!

I've suffered from migraines since I was two years old! Luckily for me, mine are less frequent when pregnant. They are horrible though, and usually nothing but meds or waiting them out will work.
How do you handle your kids when sick? Sometimes, I am so sick all I can do is cry. At that point, I'm in no position to be taking care of my three sweeties. i'd love to hear what other people do in this situation.

I have the same phenom as the others..I have had migraines for all my life I can remember...but they are less during pregnancy and worse during the weather fluctuations like we've been having here in GA..so I had a couple already. Coffee and a dark room helps a lot. I highly recommend getting Chiropractic care during this time..it seems to help me anyway..

After I had Elijah I didn't have a migraine in several months...what a blessing..I wish it was still like that!!
