Cloth Diapers

Just wondering how many mama's here are using cloth on their new babes.

I'm planning on it! I've never used them before in my life (though my MIL did with all of hers) so it could be interesting for a couple weeks, LOL! DH is willing to do it as long as I do the laundry (which I'm okay with) and he can use Kissaluvs or other fitteds instead of PFs (which I plan to use most of the time). If that's all it takes, I'm in!!

this'll be my first experience with it, too. my specific plan changes pretty often--currently, i'm planning to use mostly prefolds, supplemented with some kissaluvs and pocket dipes, and mostly wool covers with some fleece. i'm hoping for a reasonable amount of trimness, though, so i might give in to some less bulky, more plasticky covers. not sure.

nobody i know around here uses cloth on their baby, so i'll be a bit of a freak and as a result want to make sure that whatever diapering system i end up with is really cute, heh. i'm also drawn to the money-saving aspect of it, though, so hopefully i'll end up somewhere short of total stalking hyena-ness.

Us here too. Used ME OS with ds, and some prefolds, and then I got a little crazy and got some sugarpeas, and kept buying one here, one there.... you know. Not quite stalking, but trying out one of everything cute. Spend WAY too much $$ in the end.

We didn't use them right away with ds, this time I'm going to try to, which means that I need some newborn diapers, the ME OS were so bulky for a while that I couldn't get half of his clothes over them. I'll use some wool and some pul, probably. Wool doesn't sound hard, but I never really got into liking maintaining it.

I will too, though I'm not going to spend the insane amount of money that is being charged for diapers nowdays. I'll just stay with my small supply of FB and I'm going to invest in a good supply of ME OS. I used them the first time, but swore I wouldn't have any more kids and I sold them.. doh!

I will! I started using them on DS when he was 4 days old and have been ever since! He is now 16 months old. We love CDs! DH loves pockets (and so do I) but we'll start out using mostly prefolds with about 6 FB for the baby. I love those little tiny diapers (like Kissaluvs size 0...so cute! )

Hi,

I observe your due date club from time to time because, well, as a Dec 1 mommy, I sometimes feel like I have more in common or more to learn from you November mommies. I hope you don't mind.

Anyway, I plan to cloth diaper. I'm kind of excited about it. I hope to make some of my own. I didn't really sew before I got pg, but I've had good luck making cute maternity clothes (so far 1 dress, 1 shirt, and 2 pairs of pants). Any way, I just registered for some cd supplies. I know it's early to register, but I think my friends and family are going to need some inspiration. I went to a shower last fall for a friend and she got tons of disposable diapers. I'm a little worried that the same will happen to me as many of the people at this shower would also be at my shower. I'm not sure how to spread the word exactly, so I thought the registry would be good.

Here too!! I'm still trying to figure out the amount I will need(first time using cloth besides prefolds for a nb). So, far, I've bought one,lol!

I'm doing CD also! My new research project is figuring out a nighttime system, for Frano we did disposables at night, and I want to go totally to cloth this time. I'm thinking of Kissaluvs fitted diapers or under the nile with wool soakers (possibly homemade, if I can get my knitting act together!). Cloth diapers is actually one of the things I'm most excited about this time... Genevieve

I use cloth wth my DS and will use it with this baby too. Once you get in the routine it is easy! There are PLENTY of mommas here to answer your CD questions! I love using cloth!!

We'll be using cloth. We didn't start cd'ing until dd was 3 months old, so I have no nb dipes and most are pretty girly. I plan to use a mixture of everything in the beginning, some prefolds, some AIO's for going out and some fitteds (for DH's sake). I have bought some nb diapering items, but mostly I will be borrowing nb dipes from friends (I have 2 friends that have offered to loan some to me, but both had girls and knew they were having girls, so if I have a boy, I won't have a lot to work with.) After the babe outgrows the nb dipes, we will be using mostly AIO pocket dipes (homemade.)

I'd really like to, if I can figure them out, lol! I look at some of the threads here on CDing and I just get way too overwhelmed...

So if someone has any simple, step by step advice I'd love to hear it

It takes a while to figure out what works best for you and your baby. My advice would be to order a newborn sampler pack and start there. Nothing works for everyone. Natural Babies has some sampler packs you may want to take a look at. If you posted over in diapering, the ladies over there would be able to give you a tonne of places to start your search... I haven't really hunted for a while, and am not up on the latest diapering news.

I used Motherease one size (Motherease ) with ds, but they were bulky on him even with a birthweight of 10lbs 10ounces. So I'll be getting some infant prefolds and velcro covers for this babe. Prefolds look intimidating at first, but to snappi them in a cover is not hard (especially on a younger baby that doesn't squirm yet). They take some technique, though and I haven't tried to make sure that a cpf will hold breastfeed messes yet...

And it does depend A LOT on how much you're willing/able to spend... All In Ones and pocket diapers are super easy (dh proof ), but spendy (and I don't like the way they clean). Fitteds and covers are a little less, and Prefolds are the most economical.

BabyOsMommy, Thanks for the link! It was very informative, and easy to understand - even for me, lol! The package seems like a really good idea to start out with. And I might even practice some on my 2 year old before the baby is born...I'm thinking it might help to use cloth instead of disposables when potty training?!

Anytime! Like I said, there are ladies on the diapering board that will be of WAY more help than I am. Good Luck! Once you get the hang of it, it's really not a big deal at all.

Count me in. I used cloth exclusively for Elijah..and somewhat for my now 14 yr old. I had a service when we lived in CA that was cheaper and did the laundry..when we moved here to GA we tried the service and hated it, so I switched over to stuff I bought (too much stuff). At night I use Fuzzi Bunz and Wonderoos, and I have to say to the gal who is only buying 6 FB for a newborn, if you are using those exclusively as covers, you will need way more than 6 unless you are doing laundry every few hours NBs need 8-10 changes a day, especially breastfed ones in the beginning they poop nearly every time they eat.

Anyway, we are going to use prefolds and covers at the beginning and I'll switch the baby to the stash we have when he/she grows into them.
