June thread-week 2 - Page 5

Last night while taking a bath for some reason I felt compelled to look at Sheila Kitzinger's The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth which I haven't looked at for a long time because her wishy-washiness on some subjects is annoying to me, and she is way too basic and boring on others, but amazingly enough I learned something wonderful (I'd probably read it but it just didn't sink in because it wasn't pertinent at the time...)

"The mucous membrane inside the nostrils and sinuses often swells up during pregnancy because of the action of hormones liberated in the bloodstream which are also, fortunately, softening up your vagina and cervix."

Cool! All this suffering won't have been for nothing! Judging by the state of my nose, my vagina and cervix ought to be getting real soft. :LOL It would be interesting to do a poll afterward and see if those of us with pregnancy-induced allergies had easier and faster labors...

Before I forget, welcome plantmommy!

Thank you all for the congrats and well wishes on the house. Let me clarify that we won't be doing much, if any, of the work ourselves. We are getting a really good deal on the house because it needs a lot of (mostly) cosmetic work so we will be paying people to do all the work. Linda, it is a craftsman bungalow too!

Whoa Jen, what a day you had! Hope you slept well last night. Have a good and safe drive to camp tomorrow and I'll be looking forward to your posts while there.

Sheryl, I'm so glad to hear that camp is going well! And your birth class sounds great too!!

Danielle, so glad to hear that baby is not planning on coming anytime soon! I still wonder why that NP decided to check your cervix so early.

Off to knit and mulch and clean and and and... while Noah naps!

LOL at Sarah's moment with Jack, I've had plenty of those!!

Big preggo me slept in a tent last night, wheeee... Our church was having its first family campout at our new 90 acre property, where we'll build a new church in a couple of years. It has a little fishing lake, walking trail, woods and open grassy space. What a nice evening! The weather was gorgeous and the sky was super-clear. The kids all had a blast, the hot dogs and s'mores were scrumptious, and I ended up sleeping through the night without having to pee in the Portapotty once! I spent a lot of time in the tent flipping from one side to the other, and the sleeping bag I was on top of was TOO HOT and I got all sweaty and the train kept BLARING its horn as it passed every 3 hours, and today I'm sore... But all in all, a great adventure and I'm so glad we had one final camping trip before the babies arrive!

Goofy preggie episode: I just got a call from a friend I'll be visiting in Florida after Father's Day (I'm going down there for a week, and to catch my hometown's annual Watermelon Festival Father's Day weekend)... turns out the festival was TODAY! Ugh! How aggravating. Oh, well, that will give me one extra day to visit friends and family.

Nicolas is reading my post as I type, pretty cute! He also is responsible (yes, he also read that word!) for me using the "party hat guy" on this post... (And he wanted to see the banana dance, too)

Ciao for now,

Hi all from Bemidji!

Guess what, here I am, I cut out of evening stuff early to set up my apartment and get some rest from that long drive, but my apartment is locked! Figures doesn't it! And it slipped my mind to ask someone. But I see that the nurses are back so maybe I will go hang out with them and do all of my health stuff now instead of tomorrow.

The drive was long but it always is. I had a lot of Braxton-Hicks this morning but they settled down after I drank a lot of water and got on the road.

Will report more tomorrow! Breakfast is at 10:30, I don't know how I am going to not eat until 10:30!!

Hi Mamas,

Jack and I had a fun day of just running around, and he was so good! We went to see a cool dinosaur exhibit this afternoon and then ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. I love those shrimp rolls and pear and gorgonzola pizza! I could have eaten three times what I did... Our closing is on Wednesday, and everything is pretty much packed, so we should be able to take it pretty easy tomorrow.

I also went today and bought most of the stuff for Jack's party, I didn't want to have to worry about it while moving and setting up. He picked Clifford stuff (or as he says, "biiiiig Clippord") Plus on Ebay today I bought him big red floppy Clifford ears to wear instead of a birthday hat. Dh is putting Jack to sleep right now - I love not having to do it once a week! Plus we're going to see Harry Potter tomorrow night. I figure we better get the fun stuff in now.

BTW, I started taking the Floradix Iron and Herbs today, and for anyone looking to get some extra iron and b-vitamins and whose like me and hates taking big multi pills, this stuff tastes good and is supposed to be very easily absorbed. I had Jack start taking their Kindervitamins too.

I bought the new issue of "Bitch" last night, which is really good this month. That mag has become kind of hit or miss in the last couple of years, but this one is worth buying, if you ever read it. The only article that pissed me off was one about the "Mommy Myth." You would think that women's media could find some middle ground between thinking you must stay at home with your child 24hrs a day for 18 years and sacrifice everything for them and the flip side of thinking that there is nothing intellectually redeeming or fufilling in raising children and we should leave it to half-wits (which was basically the premise of this article).

Savannah - your camping sounds fun, and the new church property sounds great too. I really want to go to church tomorrow, but it is so FAR away, and I can't take Jack cause he hates the nursery. At least when I move I'll be a lot closer. Where are you going in Fl?

Jen - glad you made it to camp. Breakfast at 10:30???? You better have some snacks with you!
