I started spotting yesterday

Hey everybody,

Yesterday when I went to the bathroom, I noticed there were some drips of light pink blood in the toilet. I noticed when I wiped there was light pink stained mucous on the tissue (sorry if TMI) Anyways, I haven't started any real bleeding or had any cramping or anything. There hasn't been anymore spotting yet today.

What is going on? I've never had a miscarriage before. Is this how they start?
I hope everything is OK. I was 8 weeks on Friday.

Hi Mamamaya-

I am by no means an expert, but I think it is okay to have some light spotting, especially if it ceases by itself. It may have also come from your urine, which could indicate a bladder infection (much more commone during pregnancy). My thoughts are with you!

I did read today that 20% of pregnancies have spotting in the beginning and are fine. I can't say that's what's going on with you, but just to remind you that it doesn't necessarily mean you're miscarrying.

mamamaya, I know of several people who spotted very lightly in the early part of their pregnancies. In addition to other reasons you may spot that were posted above, intercourse can sometimes lead to spotting.

I hope that everything is ok & will keep you in my thoughts.

Spotting is a very normal thing in pregnancy. I know doesn't make you feel better but I'm sure it is all fine. Not all miscarriages start with spotting either.

I think I'm okay. I haven't had anymore spotting. But I have been really sick and every time I cough I throw up. Maybe the pressure of coughing caused a little bleeding too? I don't know.

I'm going in to the OB sometime this week to have my blood workup done and my midwife/naturopath wants me to have an ultrasound to check for dates. I guess we will find out then if everything is ok. I think it is though.

I had quite a bit of spotting throughout the first trimester of my first pregnancy and everything was just fine. I hope your appointments go well.
