We're TTC, and names are really important to me. I have strict guidelines that a name has to fit into. For instance, I LOVE the name Emily, but since it's the number 2 most popular name in the US...it's out. As a matter of fact, I won't consider anything in the top 100. So no Olivia or Ashley either. For me a name has to be classic, but not tired, gender-specific, not popular but still doable (no Hortense!) and can't start with the same letter as any of my other children's names. Also if the initials spell a word (my son is ASK) it has to be a positive word. No alternate spellings (in my own case, Brandee, or Brandie or Brandi). Also, my daughter is Rose, so no other botanical names...and my son is Addison...so no 'Jackson' or 'Harrison' or anything else with a 'son' at the end. I don't know where these rules come from but for some reason naming feels like serious work to me....perhaps becasue I dislike my own name so much. My top boy name right now is Sawyer, and my top girl name for now is Maya.
PS, please don't feel offended if you like Ashely, Olivia, Emily or even Brandy...I'm the weird one here, and I know it
