What would you put in a gift bag?

My neighbor is pregnant and for her shower gift I wanted to give her some bf-related gifts. So far, I have the book So That's What They're For (my fave bf book) a LLL schedule, nursing pads, purelan cream and some burp cloths.

What else would you put in? What did you find you needed when you first started nursing?

A nice, reusable water bottle. I'm always dieing of thirst the first few months ppd. Umm, maybe a Mothering Magazine issue? That's what I would LOVE to get! Don't know if you want to invest more but a sling would be great too!

How 'bout some Mother's Milk tea and some easy to eat nutritious snacks like dried fruit, nuts, Luna bars.

Awsome idea. Put them all in a nice basket with a handle. This way she can just grab her basket and bring it her her chair anytime she's about to sit down and nurse.

I want you guys for friends. The only other thing I can think of is some hot/cold packs, rescue remedy and a soothing CD.

maybe something to read? Something that's easily held in one hand- but not necessarily a book about BF. Although, "So that's what they're for" is a nice size to hold while nursing. :LOL

A rice sock -- so perfect for soothing sore, engorged breasts (when warm, not hot!) and also sore shoulders and lower back from hunching over your baby, scrutinizing the latch...

How about some Lansaloh? And maybe a nursing shirt or nursing PJ's. I know for me w/ my first they really helped give me confidece to nurse around others.

My DH got me these great hot/cold pads that have holes cut out for your nipples. I think JOhnson's makes them. I highly recommend them.

Nursing pillow ( I hate the boppy).

A collection of funny, inspireing BF quotes, framed, that she can look at when overwhealmed.

Frozen meal offers from friends.

A schedule put together by friends that has someone stopping by daily to help with housework, cooking, etc.

Advil.

My sister made me a basket. She's spent nearly the whole 9 months of my pregnancy collecting articles out of magazines she thought I'd like. Only a few pertained to raising kids ~ the rest were just things she'd thought I'd find interesting. She either tore the article out of the magazine or photocopied it, stapling at the corner. It was super easy to read and easy to turn pages.

I just did this for a baby shower. I am glad I am not the only one who does this.

Besides what everyone else recommened I would suggest writing/printing out some nursing tips. I gave her tips that I wish people had told me when I first started nursing. We got off to a rocky start and I wanted to throw in the towel many times. My tips were just basic tips like---Stay hydrated, relax, ask for help, etc. I also gave her tips on how to nurse in public and the numbers of the local LLL and LC. I also put a cute outfit for the baby in there. She really lilked it.

My shower staple is a nursing care package whether you are planning on nursing or not, LOL. Gave my sister one, she love it and used it! Great stuff inlcuded up there already...

Breast pads
Larger recieving blankets-i had to wrap Joey up to get his hands out of the way, and the store recieving blankets were too small.
I LOVE the chart section in Bon appetit baby--You record when you nurse and how many wet/poo diapers you have. Now, I don't think you should be crazy and watch the clock, but if you are worried and need to count output, this is great! It REALLY helped me, and my sister loved it too-there was no Q about whether he was getting enough or having enough wet/poo diapers-it was all blatantly there!
tip sheets-that is a GREAT idea-contact LLL for some--I liked...the poo/pee handout-actually-you'd be surprised by what constitutes a wet diaper! How to wake a sleeping baby, the latch sheet.

One more...not sure if this was covered, skimmed above...

a sheet with local contact #'s-IBLCs, LLL, etc.

She may not need this immediately, but what about nursing beads for the distracted baby? I liked the previous poster's suggestion of a sling.
