Alternantive to dishwasher detergent?

i'm out of dishwasher detergent and my washer is full! what can i use that will work as well as the detergent? thanks!!

I wish I could help you out here... I'm wondering the same thing. Everything I've read said there's no good alternative. I've tried BS and V, and it didn't work well. People keep sending me back to Seventh Generation, but I have not tried it yet- I default to a generic that's supposed to match P&G's Cascade ingredients since Cascade was the only thing working at our house before I started using my brain.

i use 1 tb. borax, 1 tb. arm & hammer washing soda & 2-3 tb. baking soda.
works great-nice shiny clean dishes, no chemical stink.
vinegar will etch some surfaces.
