What am I doing wrong? (Dyeing question)

HELP! I just dyed some prefolds with Procion dye. I followed the directions from Earth Guild to a T. The prefolds soaked in the dye solution 21 hours. I rinsed and rinsed and rinsed. I washed with Dawn (on suggestion from the "Dye Expert" at Earth Guild--she recommended it over synthrapol) and rinsed. A white towel washed with the diapers came out clean. Now they're all splotchy looking...some places are less blue than other places. No real pattern to it. I used 3 different kinds of prefolds, all properly prepared. It was brand-new dye. I don't know what went wrong! :

Thanks for your help.

You have to stir frequently to get an even color.

When I dye mine, I only have them in the dye bath for about 60ish minutes, but I am stirring constantly. The blotchiness comes from not stiring.

HTH!

Okay, so stirring for 15 minutes won't cut it...

Could I re-dye the blotchy ones or will that really screw things up?

Thank you!

If I were you I'd go to dharmatrading.com and use their directions. You have to stir in the beginning of the dyeing process. You can redye them and they'll be okay. Just make them a darker color of the same color or something a little different. I've turned orange ones red for instance.

btw, you van get soda ash wherever you find pool supplies. it's ph UP - sodium carbonate i think.
