Shasta Daisys

My shasta daisies are almost 4 feet high! They are overshadowing everything else that I planted. Am I supposed to cut them back? And when?
Isn't there a rule about mums and the 4th of July? Is this the same time line for the shastas?
Obviously, I am befuddled. Help, please. Thanks

Yes, you should pinch back your mums at least twice by July 4. As for shastas, I have never pinched mine back. There are several different cultivars of shastas, some are immense. I grow 2 different kinds, one gets to be about 18-24 inches and the other gets to about 3-4 feet. There are some that only get about 8-12 inches tall. If you want smaller ones, check at the nursery and move the tall ones to the back. I have one entire bed of shastas, shorter ones in front of the talls, all surrounding a huge forsythia with a big black knight buddleia off to one side. It is quite lovely! Love daisies! (Our puppy is even named Daisy!)
