You win some, you lose some

My cousin circ'd her son. (Because the dad "wanted it done." Gotta hate that.)

But......my cousin passed along the information to her SIL, who then left her son intact because of my information! So, I saved a boy I didn't even know.

Oh, I'm so sorry for that poor baby! What a stupid reason :

I know how frusterating it can be - I gave my brother all the info and talked with him about it but I lost him to stupid Wiswell or whatever his name is.

But you saved a boy and that is reason for celebration!!

You're so right - you win some, you lose some. I guess as long as you win ONE you have succeeded. The best we can do is TRY, right? I've been struggling lately with this GUILT over the poor babies whose parents circed despite the info I gave them. I feel like I failed them. I'm having to realize that it wasn't my decision and I did the best I could. But it really sucks.

What do you mean- your brother circ'd because of the UTI thing? (I've met Wiswell IRL, btw...)

Yes because of the UTI's. He said the risk of his ds getting a UTI was just too high not to circ...when I asked him what was wrong with antibiotics he changed the subject. So really I think it was just an excuse.

I think if I met Wiswell IRL...well I better not say what I would do :. How did you meet him? Did you talk to him?

Sounds like it was just an excuse.

Wiswell gave a talk in fall of 2000 at the University here on neonatal issues. He was last on the list of all day. Unfortunately, these were some good talks and HIS was horrible! All lies and exaggerations... To hundreds of dr's from around the country. To sum up his presentation.... let's just say he ended it with a cartoon of a boy peeing (not unlike those things you see in the back windows of pick-up trucks) with the caption "Wiz Well". As for meeting the man himself, he came up to the NOCIRC booth there, just as I'd arrived to help. He knew perfectly well who we were. He introduced himself, shook my hand, etc. We talked about premature babies, as I was a preemie and I wanted to get a feel for "him" without talking about "the subject". He is one of those who puts on a good face, but looking into his eyes his a liar. He thought he was so smart pulling the wool over the eyes of everybody there... People did ask questions after- even the head of NOCIRC which of course Wiswell knew who he was and gave some non-answer to whatever question it was that he asked. (I wouldn't have asked him anything like that- but I'm not this guy. lol) There wasn't anything you could do of course.... He was just up the propaganda-izing- or whatever the word is. Spreading his lies to more people. They weren't gonna look up the info- just take that home and spread the lies some more... Though one dr. DID ask about pain relief and said it didn't really seem to work. lol In fact, some of these dr's before the talk came up and talked with me about it.... Oh yeah- and apparently Wiswell does this wherever he goes... asks for security for himself because he's afraid the anti-circ people will go ballistic on him. ROFL Yeah right... Scary me! Just trying to make US look bad, when he's really only making himself look even more insane. There was a talk show on tv years back on the subject.... Montel Williams. Wiswell was on in the audience as a guest. I forget how it went, but Wiswell started spouting off all the "benefits" in rapid succession... and at some point Montel put him in his place. I wish I could remember the one-liner he used. Wiswell was speachless. Priceless!
