My dd is 10 mnths old and has recently developed an absolute fright of both of our vacuum cleaners. We've always had them (one hand held, one standing one) and have always used them around her, with her in the sling, in the backpack, whatever. About two weeks ago, I was using the hand one and she was playing with her toys on the floor and she started crying, this really scared, frightened cry. Obviously, I stopped vacuuming and comforted her. But I couldn't go back to vacuuming; no matter what I did to show her the vacuum was "our friend" and not an evil monster, let her play with it, I showed her the different parts, etc, once they get turned on, she's terrifed. I know this is getting long, sorry...in the beginning, her fright was confined to the hand-held...until today. I was using the standing one and same story. I'm not sure what to do. We can't *not* vacuum. She cries even when she is in the another room with Dh or me while the other vacuums. Our whole upstairs is carpeted and we have one very large and hairy dog..not to mention a little 10 mo. crawling around....any ideas? Please...we're desperate! Thanks.
