Do you all elevate your legs after GIO/ doing the BD?

OK, so we have our first failed attempt at TTC, which is so sad and kind of a relief at the same time for me. I am in the middle of a terrible UTI and didn't love the idea of taking antibiotics in the first trimester (even though I know they are probably safe). I feel like I need to get a handle on why I have so many before TTC again, so we are waiting a bit to start again. Anyhow, I think what may have given me one this time was that I would elevate my legs after GIO for 20 or so minutes instead of going to the bathroom to pee. WHo knows, maybe this isn't the reason, but I am just trying to figure it out.

SO my question is: how important is it to put your legs up after? Is it really vital? I don't want to get a UTI again the next time we TTC..

I didn't elevate my legs when I got pregnant with my first. I don't think it's very important to do, otherwise people wouldn't "accidentally" get pregnant!

I did every now and then while TTC #1, but haven't really since. I don't think it really matters that much

I elevate my legs afterwards, but only because if I don't then everything falls out right away. If you have the same problem but need to go to the bathroom right after, you could always pop in an instead cup to hold everything in place. I think there was a thread about it in the past few weeks. I have been considering this myself as I'm starting to feel like a bug that fell on its back and can't flip over.

an instead cup?

Is this a typo or is there something called an Instead cup? I am confused. Can someone send me the old thread about this? I am not such a good searcher of these boards, but getting better at it as time goes by.
thanks,
Elle

Instead cup is something you can use for your period "instead" of a tampon or pad. Here's a link for them: http://www.softcup.com/

Here is the thread I remembered

Not everyone was crazy about them in the thread but I have always had a good experience with them, although I have never used them to encourage pregnancy. They are for sale at drugstores and supermarkets, in the female whatnots section. Also, diva cups, keepers, diaphrams all work the same way from what I understand.
I think that they also talk about it here....

The feet in the air/instead cup thing is probably a stretch, but as I said, as soon as I stand up everything falls out and it helps me to not beat myself up at the end of the month when AF comes if I know that I did every goofy thing that I could.

:LOL That's exactly what my husband calls it!

"Hon, do you need anything from the female whatnots section?"

I keep my legs in the air with a pillow under my hips for 20-30 minutes after GIO. My dh thinks it's hysterical, but it seems like it all falls out if I don't. Who knows if it really matters...

I symapthize with the UTI! This was our first month TTC and I got a UTI THE day we started TTC (the morning before we had actually GIO, so it wasn't the GIO). I got antibiotics and had a nice CNM who said it was okay to GIO since it was for TTC(and I wound't have listened to her if she said no anyway...). I had a friend who used to get chronic UTI's and she had great success with accupuncture and herbs from a Chinese doctor. She got pregnant shortly thereafter as well.

What I did that helped was immediately after I wiped with one of the wet personal cleansing clothes being carefull to just get the urethra opening and not the vaginal opening, then I'd wait 15 min and go pee--I used to get a bladder infection everytime I waited but didn't get one at all once I started doing that--give it a try!!
