New to this forum...TTC w/questions

My home on MDC is the Diapering forum but I've wandered over here from time to time and finally decided to post.

My name is Amy and my DH and I have a DS named Ross. He's 2 1/2 now and we've been ttc since August 2003. He was quite the surprise for us (no trying for him or anything) so we're really having trouble grasping the thought that we are having "fertility problems."

My periods were irregular from Aug.-Dec. '03 and then in January they returned to normal and have been normal since then. We have an appt. in August for a fertility eval. w/our family doctor and I guess we'll go from there. In Aug. we will officially be considered as having a fertility problem.

I have been doing lots of reading and have started charting again and I have a better understanding of what is going on w/my body. I do have one question though and I'm wondering if any of you have a similar experience. I've noticed that in the past year, every time DH and I DTD after he is "finished" it feels like everything that he just put in there runs out of me. It's like I have no control over anything and my muscles or whatever push everything out. It probably sounds silly but maybe this is why I'm not pg yet? I know there are millions of sperm in each ejaculation and surely some of them are staying in there, but I feel like I immediately have to stand on my head or something to keep everything in! Please tell me I'm not some sort of a freak! It's really starting to bother me though.

Anyway, I look forward to "meeting" everyone! TIA

Well, I don't know if that is the problem, but you should try the one thread. It is a wonderful, supportive, informative group of women who are all TTC. They were so wonderful to me while I was trying that I ended up sticking around after my + test. You might want to think about trying the Instead Cup. It is a plastic disposable cup that is meant to be used to catch the menstrual flow, but some women (myself included) have used it after intercourse to keep the swimmers in. There is no "proof" that it works, but I used it, and got pregnant while using it. Good luck to you!

I actually just read that right before I read your post. I'll try anything! Last night I ended up propping my hips up on a pillow hoping that would keep some of the little guys in.

Thanks for the welcome!

Try using a diaphram - seriously!

I have a friend who had this problem and couldn't get pg. She had been using a diaphram before ttc. So she decided to start popping it in right after her dh was "finished", in order to hold "everything" in. It worked - a few months later she was pg! She told a few others about this and it worked for them too!

I also wanted to add that I always do a shoulder stand for about five minutes right afterwards, and got pg w/ dd in only 2 months that way. After the 5 minutes are up, I always lay down for at least 15 min more without getting up or straining my muscles at all.

Thanks for the suggestions and I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who has this problem! I was seriously starting to think I was doing something wrong. :LOL I have a feeling I'm going to learn a lot here!

Amy, just to throw this out there- I charted for about 7 or 8 months (w/ what I thought were normal cycles) before I realized that my luteal phase tends to be on the short side of normal. I had been counting my luteal phase starting from the day after my peak fluid day. In reality, it took at least 3-4 days before my temp shifted. Thus, I thought I was having 12-15 day luteal phases, and they were really 9-11 days. I know one *could* get pregnant with a luteal phase that length, but I believe my hormones were already falling (because my temp started dropping 5 days into the temp shift.) I took vitex for 2 months. The first month, took vitex only in my luteal phase, and had a 13 day luteal phase. We actually didn't bd that month because dh was sick. The next month, we made some fireworks of our own, and conceived dd on the 4th of July. :-)
