What's the longest it should take to test + ?

I'm so frustrated. Af is 15 days late (cd44 of a normally 28 day cycle), I have pg symptoms, but test negative. If I am pregnant, why would I be testing negative so late? Or should I just throw in the towel and wait for af to show up?

That's a long time to test negative, especially with such a regular cycle. It's normal for a woman to have at least one anovulatory cycle per year. This may be it for you. If you want, you could go to the doc and explain what's happening and have them test you. If their pg test is negative, they might suggest provera to get af and start another cycle. Or, you can just wait and see.

I have very irregular cycles so it's not uncommon for me to go 44 days or longer before getting af so I wouldn't be concerned about that. With my baby I didn't even ovulate until CD30, 2 days past when the docs thought I should've had af.

Thanks for your response. I wish I could go to the doc, but we have no health insurance at the moment.

I did test positive late when pg with my second ds...I'm trying to remember how late...I may have been 4 wks pg by the time I tested +.

I am tandem nursing, so every once in a while I will have a longer cycle ... not this long though! It could be so many things (anovulatory cycle, extra-long cycle, long cycle during which I o'ed later than usual so wouldn't be testing +), I guess I'm just furstrated with my body right now!

Testing + at 4w pg is not late. That's actually kind of early considering 4w pg would put you right at CD28. Do you have a local health clinic or family planning center that provides pg tests for free? You could try there.

I just went through the same thing. I had a temp shift and it seemed as though I ovulated. Turns out I had a cyst. I had a 64 day cycle and a 46 day LP. The cyst went away and AF started a couple of days later. I had all the pg symptoms and really "felt" pregnant. I was frustrated that I was testing neg (even a neg blood test) but felt so pg. I was glad it was a harmless cyst that went away on its own. I hope you get some answers soon, it is so frustrating!!

I sure hope this isn't me in 12 more days!!! Af is only 2 days late (cd30) for me and I've tested negative. I'm going crazy. Especially since I've never been late before!

Keep us posted Amanda!

Sorry...to clarify, I wasn't 4 weeks pg, ds was 4 weeks gestation (4 weeks after conception, not 4 weeks after cd1).

I was so excited today ... I was at my parents' house, went to the bathroom and there was a bit of red on the tp ... didn't have my keeper with me, so I got a tampon from my sister. I was sure af had arrived. Got home, tiny bit or red on the tampon, nothing when wiping. Nothing since. Argh!

I swear I'm waiting until friday to test again. I was convinced yesterday that it was just an anovulatory cycle and af would arrive sometime. I had a vivid dream of being pg last night and this morning cried for almost an hour due to just not knowing. I have no idea why I'm so emotional about all this. We weren't planning on getting pg now ... and I wouldn't mind at all either way ...

My dh should be getting health insurance through his new job soon ... I'm going to wait until the beginning of next month to go anywhere unless I feel something is wrong or I get a positive pg test. I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

Ah, that makes more sense. I don't think there's any need for you to run to the doctor right away unless you think there is a serious problem. Whenever I was really late and was anovulatory the doc would give me the option of just waiting or taking provera. You may not have that choice since you are bf anyway.

Not knowing can be very difficult. Hormones can also make you more emotional, whether pg hormones or pms/af hormones. With my ds#1 I had 2 urine pg tests and one blood test at the health clinic and was told they were all negative. They even sent me home with 6 months of bcps. I shelled out the money for a specialist because I knew there was somethine "wrong" (I didn't have insurance). She told me I was 10-12 weeks pg after just peeing in a cup and we listened to the heartbeat!

*PHEW* Af showed up this morning. Finally an end to the not knowing!!! Thanks everyone for your answers and support! Although we weren't ttc, the thought of being pg was nice ... now we'll go ahead with our original plan to start ttc on my 30th birthday in Dec. And I'll have a big ol' margarita tonight!
