should i go to the dr?

eek, sorry for the long post...

hubby and i have been ttc since january, so far without success. this is the second month of using the clearplan monitor, which, fwiw, says that i am ovulating every month. i expect af either on fri, or sat of this week, and unfortunately, i feel pms-y, so i think it's going to happen.
so here's my question..i am 23 years old, and am wondering what's taking so long...my friends seem to get pregnant simply by looking at a man, lol. i never imagined that it would take as long as it already has. i have at various times, and by various drs, been told that i have endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and a fibroid tumor. i have also been told that i am "fine", and that there is nothing wrong with me..lol. i had a laparoscopy several years ago, which was basically inconclusive. also, i have a history of having had an eating disorder, pretty much from the time i was about 12 onwards, although i have been doing much better over the last few years, and should be fairly close to my minimum target wieght (can't say for sure, don't own a scale.). i have also been told by various people in the medical field that my eating disorder might have an impact on my fertility, or might not.
anyway, i know that traditional wisdom says that you shouldn't get worried, or go to the dr re: possible infertility, for at least a year, but i feel like maybe under the circumstances, it would be appropriate...what do you think?
i don't want to seem like i am jumping the gun, or go to the dr, and be blown off, as i have so many times before..(i'm sure some of you with difficult to diagnose "female troubles" can relate to being blown off by drs who simply because they can't figure out what is wrong, will tell you that nothing is wrong...)

Hey,

Just wanted to offer a word of encouragement. Sounds like your body has been through a lot. I would not worry yet...you mentioned that you'd struggled with an eating disorder. Perhaps your body is not yet getting the right amount of nutrients it needs to support a pregnancy? Marilyn Shannon's book on Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition is a great reference to get started, with practical (and inexpensive) ideas. As you probably already know, we need a certain amount of body fat, but the exact % differs from woman to woman. Maybe gaining 3-4 lbs would help...I hope this doesn't sound too simplistic. I don't mean it to.

Another thought is that there may be some scar tissue somewhere, maybe blocking a pathway or maybe irritating your womb. One of the ways the IUD works is to constantly irritate the uterus, right? My DH and I are ttc and know how difficult it is to wait each month.

My guess is that the various medical opinions are linked to the fact that medicine is part science, part art. Our bodies are so darn complex! If you do go to the doctor, I'd suggest that you and your DH think ahead of what "interventions" you are comfortable with. Family planning is fraught with ethical issues. That way you're not surprised by necessary decisions down the road, KWIM? Hang in there, check out the nutrient mix in your diet, and have fun ttc with your hubby.

I'm 23, too (24 in Aug.)!

Palmetto has some great suggestions. Considering what your body has been through it might not be a bad idea to call the doctor. I know they say until it has been 1 yr. then you're really not considered as having a "problem", but I think in your case it would be beneficial to get things checked out.

thanks for the suggestions. i will see if i can find a copy of the book, palmetto. i have actually put on some wieght, in preparation for trying to become pregnant, and have been trying to make a concerted effort to eat a more balanced diet, but i'm sure it's still far from ideal.
hoosier-i think i'm going to call a dr, as soon as i know for sure that i am not pregant this month, and try to set up an appointment. i'm overdue on my yearly checkup anyway, so i may as well go.
thanks to both of you for the encouragement. it's nice to talk to people who can relate.
